Both good songs, although I find BAI to be hugely overrated, and it wouldn't make my top 50 (I haven't said that enough lately, so you're all sober enough for this).
BF has climbed way up my ranks though, so that's probably top 10 for me at this point.

lolzeez if you are online and browsing this thread, why cant u just release the remaining songs on the list?

Lolzeez

Ok.

4.Home

Here we go.If I made this list like a year ago I don't even know If this would make the top 30.But look here! Home is sitting at number 5. WHY? Well it finally grew on me. Kinda like Scarred or Lines In The Sand.Well this song has some of the coolest intros ever. The egyptian keyboard sound is awesome. The guitar sounds pretty dang badass. And then... SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!! LAKE OF FIRE!!!
I love that.JLB just sounds awesome here. The chorus is pure gold as well. Hard not to sing along. I also enjoy the back vocals. They make the chorus even better. I also like the delivery on "It's calling me back to my home!!!!!" Pretty awesome. Anyways let's skip to "the section". ?"That section"... Not a huge fan of that. But the instrumental section is amazing. Keep in mind this was the first album with Jordan Rudess. So yeah. He kicks ass here. Also, WHO WANTS TO COME...

...to the cinema?

As much as I love Home (just like the rest of SFAM), I've always found it slightly overrated just for the fact that everyone singles it out as the song of SFAM. Personally I'd rank it middle of the pack. SFAM is consistently great, so middle still puts it pretty high, but it wouldn't make my top 20. Then again, only one or two songs from SFAM would. Easily top 50, of course.

Enough negativity though. Let me tell you a story.
When I was getting into DT, I borrowed LSFNY off someone, and ripped it to my computer, without track numbers, so SFAM wasn't in order. At this point I didn't even know that LSFNY was a performance of SFAM, or even know what SFAM was. I was only vaguely aware that there was an album called Metropolis pt 2 (I already had IaW and knew Metropolis well).
So I get to this song that starts with an awesome sitar solo (which helped cement JR as my favourite keyboardist for how awesome it was), and then I keep hearing these Metropolis callbacks in the chorus, and riffs, at which point it clicks that this is the mythical Metropolis pt 2.
So then I spent the day trying to work out the correct order and listening to SFAM for the first time. Good times. The end.

Eek! Here's another song I don't like at all :emo:

Same here, I really don't like Home. If im listening through SFAM, I have to skip Home...

I can't believe there are actually womp womp haters in these forums!  :D

Seriously, it's a great pick.  Perfectly executed callbacks, I wish Shattered Fortress would have been a little more like this one (although I don't have as much of a problem with it as some people seem to.)

3.Take The Time

Well the song starts out with a sweet keyboard solo and some of the most memorable DT lyrics come up. "JUST LET ME CATCH MY BREATH etc." Freaking catchy! JLB's singing is so cool. Pure gold. I would say this song has the catchiest moments of DT discography ever. The chorus is gorgeous. The drumming is amazingly solid and the keyboard shows the magic KM can produce. The keyboard not only is awesome but it also balances the song. It is the small details in this song that makes me enjoy it.The samples are very cool and the guitar solo work is genius. When I first listened to I&W I wasn't too impressed until I got to this song. This song can cheer me up anytime. This and surrounded. The duo to make me happy. The lyrics are great. Every band member has put something to it. Also the keyboard solo is the best part of this whole song. It is not too long but sweet. Unlike Rudess' solos which sometimes go even longer than 2 minutes. I'm not saying that Rudess' solos are bad. I'm just saying that sometimes they disconnect you from the whole song. Ah well. This song is awesome.

KevShmev

Take the Time is too awesome for words, but it is a song that has never quite lived up to its awesomeness in a live setting.  From live crowds failures to do the "take the time!" harmony all of the time (which should have been obvious and natural), to sometimes omitting the second verse, to the added unnecessary solos, to Portnoy singing the opening section of the song, the song has just never really been a great live one.  Which is a shame, cause it is a true DT classic.

Lolzeez

Bump.

2.Learning To Live

Best song from I&W. Simple as that. This song is the Magnum Opus from I&W.The JLB vocals are the best he has ever been. Ever. Not just the F#. The entire song is a huge accomplishment for JLB. The keyboard sounds are amazing. They give the song a little push that is great and the lyrics by Myung are beautiful. The song has some great drumming. The solo section is beautiful and is my second favorite solo section. The song calms down and a couple minutes later JP's guitar brings it back. Slowly building up to the F#. WHOOOAOOAOAAOOAAOAAAAAA WHOAOAOAOAOAOAOOAAAAAAA WHOAOAAOAOAOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Beautiful. The guitar comes back to the lead and blows everyone away. The keyboard takes the lead with some great sounds, shifting the song in an amazing way. The guitar and the keyboard work together to give the song a magical feeling. 9:20-9:35 is amazing too. I really get goosebumps there. JLB comes back and sings the chorus one last time. And then you think the song is done right? Nope. We need a badass guitar ending to this shit. Let's go. From 10:30 and so on the song gives you a great feeling of victory. Absolutely amazing. And then it fades away waving goodbye...

Can't argue with that one. We know the #1 song already so you can post it already, right? :D

No.

IMO LTL is the weakest song on IaW, and the only weak point of the whole album. The early verses and chorus melodies are not very strong at all. The rest of the song is excellent, but not enough to make up for it for me.

And you know what else I'm gonna say, but I'll hold back. :lol

glass prison is at #37.

I am out of guesses.  everything I guessed is already on the list.  I'm ready to be surprised!

#1 - Metropolis - The Miracle and the Speeder live version.

Rattlehead

I know what #1 will be but I won't ruin it for anyone  All I can say is that I believe it's the first time anyone has chosen this song as their #1 on DTF. It's also a top 5 song for me  :tup

LET'S FINISH THIS SHITTY LIST! OW YEAH!

1.Canadian Rap X A Nightmare To Remember X Your Majesty X Psychosane X You Not Me Feat The Keyboard In The Start Of Erotomania

Amazing progressive song with perfect lyrics. Myung's keyboard solo was really good. Mike Portnoy's singing was out of this world and I loved the part where Chris Collins grabs the violin and shouts "YAAAAHH" while playing some Mozart. James Labrie has a great performance too. I really liked his cover of The Leper Affinity originally by the band Destiny's Child. Such power. Kevin Moore has a great spot as well. His emotional sections are just wonderful. He can really play the tambourine. The song also has the best end to any DT song. It ends with Mike Portnoy growling thus making the galaxy explode and restart from the year 1985. Instead of joining DT,Mike Portnoy makes a band with Chris Collins and Derek Sheranian called "Rejected Theater" where he has a great career.
He also has a great acting career with great performences in films like "Rambo 3" and "The Red Light". So what happens to the others? JMX becomes a cyborg ninja. James Labrie becomes an architect. John Petrucci works for a zoo. Kevin Moore is a bartender. Jordan Rudess becomes a director. And he teams up with Michael Bay to work on the new Transformers movies, and a Barbie movie. Mike Mangini? Who's that? I only know of Lars Ulrich.

Soooo number uno is...

1.Anesthetize

errrr

1.Xanadu

Hmmm

1.Shine On You Crazy Diamond

No...

1.The Musical Box

Nope.

1.Roundabout

NO

1.Your Majesty

Bad joke.

1.You Not Me

Worse.

1.Beyond This Life

LOLWUT? THAT SONG SU- Nobody. And I mean NOBODY can dislike this song. (Besides the mechs that will try to assassinate JMX some day.) The song starts out with a badass guitar riff and with the keyboard the riff creates a great feel. JLB comes in and sings with a lot of emotion. So much so that it gives you the feeling of the god damn story. The way the whole album shares the storyline with you is quite good. It is pretty clear. No bullshit hidden storyline like Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. (A concept album about birth. Hard to tell the storyline even exists) The drumming is a huge upside to the song. It gets you very excited, a very good job. Sometimes the song calms down. (Our deeds have travelled far...) And then the song throws you into a guitar solo. I love this solo right here. Beautiful and short. JLB comes back and keeps telling us the story. The drumming gets faster which is a very cool detail. Cause the song goes on talking about a murder. See? This song is much more than your regular DT song. Later the song goes slow again. The song sounds like it might end after a chorus repeat. And yes,the chorus does repeat. If this was you regular prog song it would end right after 5:53. But nope. Not done yet. The song is just not satisfied enough. A fucking solo roars. Even more powerful than the last one. Jordan Rudess does his best keyboard solo ever.Totally genius. Then the guitar takes the lead again. This solo is kinda bluesy which I really like. At this point of the song you are shitting your pants. Awesomeness overload. Now you are literally hypnotized. Jordan Rudess comes back and blows you away.Very cool. BUT THEN my favorite part comes in. The Frank Zappa part. If you didn't know Zappa is one of my favorite artist. Ever. So this is very neat. The riff opens up and goes into another level. The guitar comes in and throws you back into the chorus. The song is giving you goosebumps. So much so you actually sing along. And then the song ends. Now if this was the good old Budokan version it would be even better but I only want to cover the studio version. You don't talk about the Budokan version, you listen to it. That's how good it is. Anyways yeah. Beyond This Life is the most underrated Dream Theater song AND the best Dream Theater song IN MY OPINION. Thanks for checking out my list!

Even if you only looked at the songs, not the write ups, dont worry. I do that too. ;)

Still,screw you ._.
