Also,I prefer the 1993 version of ACOS.

This. James' F#s at the end are so damn climactic it's ridiculous.

Nice list so far... it seems we agree on a lot of songs being "overrated"  :lol.
Tbh we agree on A LOT of things. It's kinda creepy. You were 2nd on my roulette too...

Double update day. Woot.

20.Repentance
OH YEAH! I love this song! Let's put it on the list. And make it as high as number 20! Yup! Awesome song from the 12 step suite. This song calms the whole album and the suite down very nicely. This song gets too much hate here and that's bullshit. I have to admit though it did take some for me to fully enjoy this song. Btw YES. The song is fucking UNDERRATED. And yes again,it does sound like something from Damnation. But I love Damnation. So yeah.

PS:It's indeed my favorite from 12SS. Hi Blob.

19.Octavarium

This was one my favorite DT song  last year. I never got into this one until late 2011. Crazy i know. The continuum solo/intro is very well done. Though a little too long. The little flute solo is a very good detail. I love it. I love James' vocals in this song too. This song pretty much defines Labrie's voice.  This song shows how much DT matured in their music. There are lots of complex drumming and great bass lines. The guitar solo at the end is pretty cool as well. In the score version when James roars "Trapped inside this octavarium" it blows me away every damn time. I love this song and sadly it didn't make the top 10. Still this song is well worth any top 20 list. You know the list is good when Octavarium is at number 19.  :metal

Cool to see Repentance. It's one of the few bright spots on SC, even though I think it drags at the end.

GasparXR

Repentance is also my favourite song from 12SS and SC! :lol

Hi Blob

Onno

Repentance is a good song, but it's not among my favourites from both the 12SS and SC.

17.The Dance Of Eternity

If someone else says that this is random wankery i swear i will kick them in the nuts.(or in the face i'm not sure yet) This song right here is their best instrumental. Better than ytse jam better than hell's kitchen. The intro to the song is very weird. It has some recordings from metropolis part 1 in the background and then...BAM. The keyboard here is freaking excellent and along with some of the best drumming i have ever heard this is a huge hit.I especially like 1:19-1:25 very jazzy and awesome. The Myung solo is legendary and the good old moment that is 2:33-2:47 comes out of nowhere. The Dance Of Eternity teaches us how you can change music throughout the song.It is gorgeous.3:50-4:22 is fantastic. How the song turns around itself and then makes a huge change is very effective. This song is kinda like Larks' Tongues In Aspic Pt. 2 since it shows how to progressively change the music. I love this song and it IS better than all the other instrumentals DT has done ever.

Phew. Next song.

BlobVanDam

Is that your controversial pick? If so, I approve. :tup
And Surrounded is great too, although I don't rank it too highly.

Nothing wrong with DoE at all!  If you are a Dream Theater fan and you complain about random wankery then I think you are forgetting what band you are listening to.  If it was constant wankery then one might have an argument, but random wankery is always welcome AND expected when listening to virtuosos.

MoraWintersoul

I'm among TDOE nay-sayers, but not for it supposedly containing "random wankery" - I just hate the word "wankery" in music, it's just complicated music ffs, no dong action involved unless you're kinky like that - but because it gets quite boring in a few places.

Great to see The Dance of Eternity. Surrounded and Octavarium are also great choices.

16.Trial Of Tears

This song has some of the best intros ever. So fucking magical and gorgeous. Sheranian REALLY shines here. James' vocals are perfect and Myung has his best lyrics ever here. The chorus is pretty good and catchy as heck. Not much to say.

WOOT TOP 15!!

15.The Great Debate

One of the best intros ever. The samples are a great touch. I really enjoy them. When the song really starts there are some amazing drumming. Labrie's singing is amazing and the little effects that Rudess does is great. The chorus is very enjoyable and the keyboard solo is amazing. This song is underrated as fuck. Needs more attention and love.

Tool.

14.Bridges In The Sky

OMAGAD THAT CHORUS IS GOOD! Anyways, say hello to Bridges In The Sky. It's an awesome song. Reminds me of The Glass Prison in a way. Cool intro, catchy chorus and awesome wankery. Rudess ftw. After 7:15 the song is awesome. Pretty much the song that got me into ADTOE.

BlobVanDam

Excellent choices. :tup I don't like TGD quite as much as the other two, but it's still a great song.

3 great extended songs. Nice to see Bridges in the Sky this high.
