Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

Beneath the Surface quickly became my favorite DT ballad.  It is one of the most emotional songs in their catalog and when James raises the key in the last verse...chills.

TheGreatPretender

It's a cool song. I like it better than I did when I first heard it, but it's nowhere near their best on the album. And certainly not their best since 6 Degrees, although I will agree that it's better than 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence song itself.

?

Can I get a spot on the OP list? Thanks in advance.

BTS, while not my favorite on ADTOE, is a great song and I agree that it's a good closer song.

BlobVanDam

Meh, I think BTS is one of the weaker songs on ADTOE, and the pitch correction on the vocals kills the mood hugely for me. Wouldn't be a top 50 for me.

BlackInk

Beneath the Surface is a very nice song, it wouldn't be this high for me but it's still a very nice song.

Elite

I think BTS is probably the weakest song in ADTOE. It's nice, but definitely not top 10 worthy.

So, my guess for the rest;
The three remaining tracks from SDOIT (Title-track, Misunderstood and Blind Faith) and Lines in the Sand.

4. Never Enough

Muse - Stockholm Syndrome

No, really.

Nah, not really.

4. Misunderstood

DT's most experimental song, easily. This is one of those songs where every member shines. JP's acoustic intro, and his amazing reverse solo, and his other stuff. All of it. JR's haunting keyboard sounds, MP's tasteful drumming, Myung's chill bass, JLB's soft, then powerful vocals. This song pretty much has it all. It's one that keeps you interested the whole way through, because it changes so much throughout. One of their most beautiful moments after the intro and the vocal part, you know where MP is playing on his octobans and splash/stax cymbals. That has always given me some amazing feeling. I can't explain it. I think it's a strange, but well structured track. The lyrics are amazing, and some of Petrucci's best. The chorus is also outrageous. If I seem superhuman I have been, misunnnndeeerrrstooooooooood. I love the evil sounding section after the chorus, because it just fucking owns. At first, I was like...ehh.. but I think it's a beautiful part once you get used to it. I can see people hating the shit out of this song, because of all that screetching and weird noises. Something that has always creeped me out about this song: When you hear that guy breathing. It gives me goosebumps, and this song is a fucking experience. Listening to this as you're drifting to sleep is an adventure. And not a happy one.  :heart

Very cool song. I don't ever want to hear the second half ever again, but the first half is nice.

Scorpion

The outro drags on a tad too long, but the rest of the song is fucking stellar. Still, that makes it my least-liked song on SDOIT, though it is (to quote Blob) still a lesser god amongst greater gods and by no means a bad song.

Only The Great Debate is slightly better :)

Are you kidding? The Great Debate is the worst song on the album. But anyway, I don't wanna start a great debate about this, so let's just agree to disagree.

I put it at #6 in my top, just before this one. How van you dislike it, the title is almost your username..

The Great Pretender is a song by The Platters, later covered by Freddie Mercury. It's got nothing to do with TGD on SDOIT.
I don't dislike it, I just think that all the other songs on SDOIT are better by a long shot.

The intro drags on too long, and the vocals are underwhelming, aside from the "Human kind has reached a turning point" part. The Great Debate is the one that should've gotten a Single Edit, not Misunderstood.

theseoafs

The whole of Misunderstood is wonderful. The Great Debate is also wonderful. It's a wonderful album.

Bizkit, you're lucky Boolsheet isn't still here, because you'd be getting a lecture about how incorrect your opinion is about now if he were.

A great song, and it sounds amazing on headphones with all the swirling string sounds, the subtlety on the drums, and that deep bass sound from JM. :hat

I just started writing a list, and I want to put almost every song which made the cut into my top 15. Daim.

3. Blind Faith

Yet another Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence song. Truly amazing song, with much to appreciate. It has James's best lyrics in my opinion, and it is musically one of the best songs I have ever heard. The intro is beyond amazing, and it's very atmospheric. The chorus, I think is amazing, while many others find it weak. I love how things pick up after the first chorus, keeping you on your feet, and ready for more. MP spices up his patterns throughout the song, unlike anything post TOT. "And still life pushes on..".. that little part right there has always been one of my favorite DT moments. Blind Faith has probably the best solo section of any DT song. It's longer, but it doesn't suffer from wankery. It includes JP soloing, JR playing organ sounds, piano sounds, badass mother fucker sounds, and of course the JP/JR unison. Beautiful, and I don't see how they play all this. IIRC, JP said it was one of the most difficult parts of any DT stuff. After the intense soloing, it goes to another powerful chorus, then settles to a calm outro. That's how you make a badass song  :metal
