I can see only one reason for going back to the Evening With format: they're going to play the entire new (concept) album as one of the sets  ;)

Could be!!

cyberdrummer

Let's hope the band confirm what the show format is either way. I can't take all the speculation!

?

At least no support band has been announced so far... I'd be happy enough with a regular show, since I've never seen DT live before, but of course I'll be especially stoked if it's going to be An Evening with DT! :caffeine:

MajorMatt

Man, ticket prices seem to rise every tour! Pretty sure the first time I saw them they were £25, so more than double that now.

I'll probably still go to the Manchester gig, but I'll be disappointed if ticket prices go up much more and may have to think twice about going - being a poor student and all  :\

This. I'm so happy and exited  :metal

Well, the return of the Evening With format would be like Christmas every month, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

TheAtliator

I mentioned his in the other section, but I'm noticing the shows are a lot closer together than usual. 3 or 4 shows in a row. Doesn't that make Evening With a lot less likely?

wasteland

Yes, I noticed that too. Four consecutive days in Italy. This is going to be tough, especially for James. Let's hope he manages to keep the ADTOE standards.

?

Yeah, I hope it won't affect James' performances too much (if the tour is "an evening with DT"), especially since I'll see the last show of the European tour.

Me when Manchester date was announced -  :metal
Me when I saw the ticket price (thanks Duncan for the heads up) -  :omg:

wasteland

I can pretty much say that if the tour is a AEW James will be most certainly torn apart vocally. A schedule so tight took place in 2004, and it really took its toll, as we can see in Budokan.

cyberdrummer

Has his voice in general not improved since then? And perhaps his general fitness is better?

wasteland

Yes, but in my experience this improvement was aided by a more human tour scheduling. In ADTOE he reached the top of his game in the middle of each leg, after usually a week of warmup, or a little more. After that, a week and a half long plateau and a smooth decline in the last week. This is what happened the last time judging on bootlegs and concert videos.

I think he might be at the top of his game right now, but I also believe that to keep it that way he needs to start decreasing the amount of performances, or keep the gig density at least as low as it was in the immediate past. More or less what Roger Federer is doing right now with his career of tennis player.

?

Maybe DT could play all the instrumentals they've released (including Eve!) to make it easier for him? :D

TheAtliator

In certain aspects of his voice yes, but other aspects no, and others go up and down between legs and tours. 2004 was one of his best years for high clean middle voice, but he had absolutely no distortion. 2012 was one of his best years for distortion, but he still struggled a little with parts like "as a child I thought.." and had to kind of scream it out. But then again his screams were really good in 2012. But then look at summer 2011.. Not very good for him all around. He had trouble hitting notes, could only sometimes create distortion, looks really out of breath. But it looks like he lost weight since then too so who knows.

wasteland

Yup. Anyway: I trust James. He's an awesome singer and an even greater professionist. He knows what is good for his body, what is good for his voice and what is best for his performance and his contribution to the band's live output. If we have this kind of schedule is that because he agreed to it, so he is positive that he will be able to pull it off at least decently.

So, let's all show Jame some trust, he earned it in the past few tours!  :)

Yes, I hope this is the case. James, you can pull it off - we believe in you! :)

I remember many a ticket dealing site reported the "Evening With" formula last year too. I wouldn't read much into it.

MoraWintersoul

And I'll be super duper sad if I miss it, if the Evening With takes place :lol
Am I wrong in thinking it explains steeper ticket prices?

cyberdrummer

Seetickets didn't. There's a lot of evidence hinting at it being the case.

Can you list it? I have been pretty absent this morning and I'm struggling a bit to catch up. :)

cyberdrummer

1. Seetickets
2. Ticketmaster Italy has an image of a tour poster saying 'An Evening With Dream Theater'

From Symphonic Theater Of Dreams fb:

Quote"An Evening With" is back! It will be amazing tour. Long concerts with new CD!
We are waiting for Dream Theater in Poland. Thanks for our label Rock Serwis for inviting the band to our country.

Ed Hughes I thought they scrapped the "Evening With..." concerts a while ago. Don't think they'll go back to it either, though I would love it if they did. Proof?
Symphonic Theater of Dreams Hello Ed Hughes
It is information from our label. They`ve invited Dream Theater band so they know details of event

Not an official information but very likely! :CJS:

I'm sure there was something else, but I can't find it at the moment.

Well, also it's gonna be almost 10 years since Budokan. LaBrie's gotten older.

I've posted this in the London gig thread, if you are an O2 customer and registered for Priority you can get tickets on Wednesday during their pre-sale for UK dates. I'm not trying to advertise for O2 but I think some of you will appreciate getting some good seats. Hope this post isn't against any rules ;)

Jinx

Ive just been thinking, maybe the hiked prices are because the band are bring extras each night? E.g. the Orchestra!! Maybe they dont even have to bring the full thing, but I think this could be the reason.

Awesome. Great news for European DT fans!

Can't wait until the North American dates are announced!

I'm really hoping for "An Evening With..." but I''m just glad I'll see them relatively soon :metal

Grizz

Besides the show(s) with Crimson Projeckt, what's their excuse for the last tour?
I think it's the Grammy, personally.

Weymolith

I was thinking... The new album is self-titled, so I'm pretty sure it won't have a storyline (luckily!), but maybe it will flow like SFAM and Octavarium and have a certain continuity? That would explain the inclusion of an intro track and also make a full performance reasonable. JP said the "evening with" format works best when they play some album in full ;)

I know this is all speculation, but it's interesting to think about. I just have to hope the new album will be really good if they play it in full!

cyberdrummer

Agreed, I think we could see it played in full. Either that, or they're playing SFAM in full for the 15th anniversary.
