I like the title Shaman's Trance, but only if there's a big Native American feel, especially in the drums.  :D If it's generic DT instrumental (if there is such a thing) I prefer Bridges In The Sky.

Alright fine.

Announcement:

Dream Theater have changed the title of The Shaman's trance to Bridges in the Sky.

I like the new title more, if it's the truth.

Though, I think a couple of the existing titles could use some sprucing, as well:

BMU,BMD- I Get Up, I Get Down
BTS- John's Psychedelic Breakfast

Dream Theater found out that Aniland had called track 5 as the most lauded song on the album, so they decided to change the song's title to accomodate him.

...

That being said, I actually like The Shaman's Trance better.  It just has a more unique feel to it.

But I will say this for Bridges in the Sky: it makes more sense for the album.  The tracklisting is more cohesive with BitS.  Thematically, TST was the oddball title of the bunch, in my mind.  Plus, Bridges in the Sky makes infinitely more sense with the album cover.

I want to put this out here, just for the sake of discussion:

What if Bridges in the Sky was the album title?

Well that'd be just brilliant, 'cause then we'd all be looking forward to BITS, which is a fantastic acronym.

Bridges In The Cloudy Heaven would be even more brilliant for that.

I still think there should have been a song called John's Psychedelic Breakfast.  Just putting it out there.

Dream Theater is nowhere near as hip as Megadeth.

Well, that's a shit sandwhich.  If DT's not even up to Megadeth's level of hip-hoppitiness, how the hell's the new album supposed to outsell Dedicated to Chaos?  It doesn't even have any titles with misspelled words!

Pols Voice

I like the name The Shaman's Trance because it's pretty different for DT and got a lot of people wondering what the song might be like. Bridges in the Sky is more generic. It makes me think of Bridge Across Forever, actually, which is my favorite album ever, but I don't need more DT-related mysterious bridge titles. :P

atmyne

this may be a bit of a far-fetched hypothesis, but maybe the song name "the shamans trance", if it has in fact been changed, was dismissed as it could be a form of drug reference.
shamans have been known to utilize or advocate the use of psychoactive drugs, notably psilocyben mushrooms and dimethyltryptamine (DMT, from native plants, leaves etc.) in order to "discover" one's self and their place in nature (or something like that :lol). In this psychoactive state, a shamans chant is utilized to help induce a particular state of mind under the influence of these substances.
Maybe the potential allusion of drug-use could be a reason to change the name?

unklejman

I would guess that if it was changed, it's because it doesn't fit with the feel of the rest of the album.
