And see, writing a good DT set list isn't that hard! ;)

:rollin

Well, it isn't!  DT has so many good songs, that they could put the ones they play on playing on a tour in a bowl, pick out a dozen or so randomly, and odds are that it would be a good set list at worst.  Despite what I have often said about Portnoy's personality and off the stage persona, I have never been one to dog most of the extra stuff he did for the fans and whatnot, but I always thought the praise for his set list writing was vastly overstated and overrated.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. The only thing that they could add that just might make me implode, is A Change of Seasons in the place of TCOT.

I'm worried a little about James. In the recording, he sounds good at times, and at times it sounds like he struggles...
I do have to admit, there was a few spots where I was like  :(  But for the most part I was extremely impressed throughout and the positives are far more present than the negatives
Yeah I agree, the tough moments didn't sound too bad. It's probably since it's their first show in a pretty long time.

Any word on how the backing vocals were done?
For some reason, this is question I most want the answer to.
I don't see any song there that actually needs backing vocals (other than maybe Petrucci filling in for 1 line or two).

None of them need them, it would just be nice to have them.
Lol you get what I mean (I hope you do), none of these songs had significant backing vocals to being with (maybe except TCOT). If they played PoW/ANTR/CM etc I'd be a little worried, but with the songs they played it's just a nice yet minor addition.

Amazing set list!  :tup

And from the sound of all the youtube videos very tight. Mangini was amazing with is solo performance/ytsejam

i just checked UAGM (best dt solo eveR)..so i was checking the solo (flawless as ever)....
now when you look at the crowd..the only thing you see is cellphones.... that sucks!

i think for an artists its very boring to look at the backcovers of nokia's, iphones, sony's etc all night...
you attent the first DT show with mm...and than you are not totally into it because you have to look at a little screen the whole night.....and when you come home you realize that the sound is so shitty it's useless...

I completely agree, but let's face it, we know this because we watched footage taken with a cellphone.

tgstk2

that's true but back in the day with VHS (pre DVD people...so the 90!)...i have a shitload of PanterA bootelgs on vhs....and those weren't made on a cellphone...but on normal videocameras... in 2011 the good cameras are also small.
1 itialan should have sneaked it in, used it and let the others know so he/she would take care of the bootlegging.

i want a soundboard quality bootleg of this...since it's an italian showl, i hope the maffia is putting some cents in it so we get the quality we deserve....

DarkLord_Lalinc

I fucking love the setlist, the energy, the band...this is so promising in so many ways it's ridiculous.

SystematicThought

I'm surprised there hasn't been some newer fans going: "Where's Constant Motion and Panic Attack. Their hits!!!!!!!"

DarkLord_Lalinc

Petrucci probably realizes Panic Attack has been played too much, and Constant Motion is probably going to be off for a while  :lol

Soundboard recordings of DT pretty much never happen anymore, but I have a feeling someone made a boot.  I mean, how could it have not happened?  Some of the audience stuff is fortunately pretty solid.

That still makes me laugh on command, especially thinking about how it goes into the riff right after BLISTERING!

Petrucci probably was fed up with CM and PA. If it wasn't for Rock Band, those two probably wouldn't have played as much. As a video suggested, MP plays Rock Band, so he's in touch with that side.

Jamesman42

Well, for CM, I would think that the lack of MP makes it a hard song to pull off live.

JR should do it

I'm not sure it's technically feasible, but I'd legitimately enjoy him doing some VP-550 stuff live.

EDIT:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPKjj4putLg

You couldn't see him doing MP's vox?

:omg: :omg: :omg:  F#!!!!

:hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy JLB's back in action!   :metal

At first I though it was kinda sloppy, beacause my mind was stuck with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngEqilPozN4&t=425, which is the kind of version i usually listen to.

But after a few run through the video, I must say that James' perfomance was more than acceptable  :)
