"it doesn't feel right"

I don't know if it can feel better that it does right now. The songs were played flawlessly, the band felt happy as ever and things are just that good.  :D

In fairness, MM is a little more loose and less showy than MP is.  It's definitely different.

People seriously need to get over the fact MP's not in the band anymore...Jesus.

chrisbDTM

it is the MP forum.... i was surprised at all the MM positivity in the 'SANCTIONED' album thread

ThatGuitarGuy

At the end of OTBOA the video screen flashes through a bunch of different countries currency.  Perhaps that confirms that the song is political/economical in nature?

Is it possible for Rudess to start doing backing vocals?  I knew the lack of MP backing vocals would be weird, but not like this.  Something needs to fill the void.
I agree. Although I will say that John Petrucci is doing fine when you can hear him. I feel like he is turned down too low. I think they should get a vocal harmonizer so James could harmonize the melody and the upper harmony, then JP could just do the low harmonies. Ideally, Jordan would sing though.

JMX looks so animated in these. Of course, not from the I&W style animated...but he looks like he's having fun!

As someone has already said, I think those MM traits fit the band better than MP's rock show style. People don't go to a Dream Theater concert to see one hell of a show (in terms of production, crowd participation, etc.), in first place  :D

That vocal solo was awful. It's a good thing on the album, but it sounds really bad here, you can tell James is like "yeah let's get this over with" and then every time it happens the fans are like "zomg F#" regardless of whether or not it was actually nice to listen to, and then James goes back stage to harass his monkeys or whatever he does back there.

Least they could do is give him a bit of reverb to cover it up a bit, then it would probably sound decent, but it just sounds incredibly out of place in the song now. Someone from the audience might as well have just gone "waaaaa" over the music.

Although, when he comes back with "the way your heart sounds, etc", that actually sounds really good.
Wow there's some rage over the F# :D

It was nice imo. Not his best, but still fun to listen to.

I see Peruvian Skies and Caught in a Web listed on the setlist, those are the only two songs that I can't find video for.  Anyone have better luck than I?  With those my "virtual concert" will be complete until the bootlegs come out.

Great performance funny to see that mm is way more an metal drummer than mp who i guess thought he was......
Seeing dt with mm really gives me new energy and interestin dt.... Even on stage they look more secure.. Different attitutde like .... Fuck u we are dt and we ownnnnnn

Fiery Winds

My problem isn't with the F# itself, it's with the notes leading up to it.  JLB is great at a low-mid register and the occasional bursts of high notes, but any sustained singing in between he has trouble locking in tune.

The Silent Cody

Very musical and good solo, and I loved the beginning of Ytse ;)

rush-signals

Anyone notice that JP seems to be more in charge on stage now. More of leader presence? I like it!

7StringedBeast

Hope this is just a thing with it being an off night/first show/last song of the set thing for james.  This is the worst I've heard him sing lately.  Doesn't help that he is waaaay too high in the mix compared to the rest of the band and I can't hear any reverb blending him in.

I agree. Although I will say that John Petrucci is doing fine when you can hear him. I feel like he is turned down too low. The harmonies are rarely static (as in James sings a line, and the harmony notes are say, all a third above his line). This wouldn't really work. I'm surprised Jordan doesn't sing live, does anyone know if MM can sing?

MM confirmed he can't/wouldn't sing in his latest interview.

Indeed. It is fantastic to hear the F#, but in the recording I saw, the notes leading up to it seemed just a bit off. For me, it's not the F# alone that does it for me - I know my last post made it seem like it is - it's the entire build-up that helps it be a wonderful part of the song. Regardless, the new Rome performance still did it for me overall.

He was definately sharp in that section however Wait for sleep reprise redeemed the entire vocals. Jordan was especially good.
