The second biggest newspaper i Norway actually has the news about MM on their frontpage, pretty high up on the page.
Yeah, I think I remember hearing about that at one point!

Oh yeah... I heard about it 4 posts ago.

Aren't you special.

I'm pretty much the biggest thing since indoor plumbing.

What grinds my gears about that article is that the headline says: "Dream Theater found drummer via YouTube", like they found MM on youtube or something... And also the fact that they in the article straight out calls the doc "a reality-series".  :yeahright

Haha, it seems to me that people really forgot what a reality show is.

10 years ago when it all started with the Big Brother, it was about filming people (usually "held captive" in one place) 24h/day, using a gazzilion of cameras and showing a large portion of it/or all of it via internet live.
Today, they just call documentaries reality-shows.

I must admit I was already sold on Mike Mangini when I saw his audition, just amazing.

I pretty much agree with you there. I mean, the point of Reality TV is that the name is semi-ironic because what it documents is not full reality.

There are the Big Brother/Survivor style shows, where the reactions of the people are real but the scenario they are placed in is not.

There are the talent/singing shows, where the talents are real but again, the scenario is not.

And so on. If the thing being documented is entirely real then it isn't "Reality TV", it's simply reality and so is just a documentary. A lot of people seem to get confused about that these days, and just use the phrase to describe any documentary they don't like. :lol

Spot on! We've just seen it with the drummer auditions.

Congrats Mike, I was away for Easter and have logged on now for the first time since April 19 what a time to have a break.
Great news though!  :)

Wow talking about beating a dead horse... Call it what you will. It was simply a documentary of DT auditioning drummers. How is this complicated? Some like it, some don't. That was easy...

emindead

I think that we can safely say that this news is no longer spoiler-worthy.

Hey I haven't been around much, but I just wanted to say... I totally called this:

They should turn these auditions into a reality show.

Except that it wasn't a reality show, and therefore you didn't. :P

Ummmm .... actually it all started 23 years ago with the first reality show - Cops!

EpicCookie

I dunno if it was already posted but this is what Mangini's new Dream Theater kit looks like

Ben_Jamin

Almost like waiting for a character in a movie to say the Title.

black_biff_stadler

The roadrunner link in the OP about anouncing MM as the new drummer now leads to theory of a dead man (as of this post any way.) You might wanna yank it and, if possible, post a more current link to the video.
