Ah Mike Mangini. I saw him play with Vai many years ago. He is obviously a solid drummer. I get what DT did here with the video segments. It was an interesting introduction and I think it will help win over a lot of nay-sayers.

GandL

I'm really glad he got it. He seems to be a nice person, can play a lot of styles, he will be a great addition. I can't wait for the next album. His "latino" blood will bring a lot of emotions.

I want to add that all the other ones did great as well, especially Marco and Peter, no one should be ashamed of their performance.

Mister Mangini, enjoy your time, you deserve it  :metal

It's a nice boost for one of the greatest band. Now I feel like a young child waiting to discover his Christmas present (the next album)  :hat

It was a bit... too emotional for my tastes. For a 48-year-old grown up man and a famous musicina that he is, Mangini was a bit too emo. That just rubbed me the wrong way.

So a 48 year old man can't be truly deeply excited by getting such an amazing opportunity?

Seriously, I'd like to see your reaction if Metallica asked you to join them.

After I saw the first half of Episode 3, I honestly though Peter was a shoe-in. But nonetheless, Congratulations to Mike.

Imma go listen to DT's discography now.

Petrucci's Post on his forum about Mangini, the doc, and the fans:

Quote from: John Petrucci"Well, it's been a very exciting day for all of us in Dream Theater and we are happy to finally share the news that Mike Mangini is our new drummer! He is not only a beast of a player but an incredible person as well who truly and fully understands and values everything that we strive to be as a band. Thank you for being so patient and incredibly supportive to us throughout the years and especially over the last several months. Thank you for your faith in us and your immediate and practically across-the-board acceptance of Mike Mangini as our new drummer. Thank you for the positive words about the documentary and all of your passion and dedication. The movie is our gift and our invitation into something that would traditionally be very private and I appreciate everyone's sensitivity towards that. There's a lot of work to be done, so back to the studio. JM finished tracking bass today and Jordan is recording as I type. Things are real busy around here. Can't wait for everyone to hear the new music and to begin playing live with Mike!
God Bless,
John "

Well at first I only wanted Lang because he is such a power house. I was dissapointed when he was frowned upon for adding his little twists to the original song. I believe he just wanted to show his talent and was nervous and meant no disrespect.

Marco was awesome. Peter ,wow you were deserving as well and perfect. The other drummers were great also and it was a cool little reality type show, loved it.

Mangini just fit so well. Hes a beast on drums and his boyish zest for life is one of a kind. He has more energy than most young folk and he just seems to gel perfectly with the band. Heres to hoping he can connect with the crowd as good as Portnoy did.

Grats Mike, you deserve this,  best of luck to you and DT.

I think it would be awesome if James does another project with Wildoer, and then another one with Lang  ;D

As happy as I am that Mangini's got the job, there's one thing he's missing.

Snakes.

Wildoer was really cool and played very well. I am definitely happy with their decision. I don't feel any disappointment that "my drummer" didn't get the job (marco) because the documentary made it so clear that Mangini was the right decision. Can't f***ing wait for the new album!  :metal  :corn

I gotta say, the last ten minutes were pretty emotional

I'm literally speechless right now. The way Mangini came off in the documentary is everything a person should be: humble, talented and joyful. When he was told he got the gig, you could see it on his face that he was completely happy and at peace, and then guy says, "Thank you for trusting me." He basically says, "Guys, I won't fail you". Immediately he took responsibility. He made himself accountable. He cared.

And this rubbed you the wrong way? Are you kidding me?

I remember I felt really weird when Mangini said: "I definitely have a tsunami of emotions going on..." Little did he know, he turned a drop of water into an ocean.

Congrats and welcome to the family Mr. Mangini. I didn't know a single thing about him (including that i always loved the drums on EoP without even knowing who the drummer was) but he has proved himself to be the best guy for the job. He really seemed to be the best fit personality and talent wise. I'm super excited for the new album.

I just read the interview, and I must say, I'm still really excited about all this. It's clear to me that MM has a really deep appreciation for DT - for the members and for what they are doing. Also, I find his modesty really refreshing.

Pretty happy with the choice, and blown away by his reaction. Unbridled happiness and relief from him. Was a good watch.

The news about the new drummer has even reached the front page of the online version of one of Norway's biggest newspapers dagbladet.no...Quite surprising, but awesome nonetheless!

?

Congrats to Mangini! :) The rumors were right indeed! I can't say I was surprised, but I'm happy with DT's decision.

@ Dellers: That's amazing. I have yet to find something about it on the Austrian newspaper sites...

W...What a brilliant piece of text.

The second biggest newspaper i Norway actually has the news about MM on their frontpage, pretty high up on the page. I was quite suprised, since the only musicians they write about is lady gaga and justing bieber.
