Hey everyone! Stopping by because this is an important day!

I'm very happy with the choice. I wanted Minneman and I think he'd bring a fresher, more energetic character to the band and change a bit of what they're doing, but I'm extremely pleased with Mike Mangini. He's the only one with the name that can fit in Portnoy's shoes and will do an incredible job continuing the legacy.

Look forward to the new album

I'm not 100% convined you're Scott.  :yeahright  Spell "the."

ScottOfRedemption

haha it's funny how much of a reputation one can build up at 15! even after over 3 years of not coming here regularly and about the same amount of time speaking coherently when I was!

But, for my fans, I should have ended:

I must admit, when I saw the words 'The news you've been waiting for', I thought you'd managed to upload bacon to the server. Needless to say, I'm rather gutted.

This is great news!

Mangini is an excellent drummer and a perfect fit.

I think that his strong passion for wanting to be in the band sealed the deal.

The last thing that we would want is to have the new drummer quit after a few albums because it really wasn't what he was truly into. I do not see this happening with Mangini. I think he will ride the wave as long as he can with all his heart and soul.

They made the best choice.... We should all be very happy.

Bittersweet day for me. DT fan and Portnoy fanboy since the release of I&W. Nobody will ever replace what MP
meant to me as an inspiration behind the kit, and nobody, not even the great Bonzo will overtake him in my book.
But alas, the show must go on. I am humbled by how Mangini said he would carry on MP's spirit.

All the best to both DT and MP moving forward. Time for some new DT music.

Very Happy with this and was sold on Mike after the first vid , i did know his work before all this and had Marco and MM pretty much as a tie for who i personaly wanted but like i said after seing how much MM wanted this and seemed to be such a fan of DT plus the unbalivable playing he did with DT , Im so happy !!!!!

Oh and I guess my info was correct from a little while back

:tup :tup :tup YAY MANGINI!!!  WELCOME!!!

I was one of  the vew who voted for Mr. Wildoer (I enjoy his other works)  BUT  I could not be any happier the drum reigns are in your hands Mr. Mangini.  After, seeing the love and respect you gave to this job.  That drum seat was made for you!

Was I the only pussy that teared up at the reveal.  Mike's elation was pricelsss.

I cant wait tfor the NEW album!!!  ROCK ON! :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

I like Mangini's enthusiasm, and all drummers were pretty equally talented so it was a good pick. I think they should have picked both finalists and had a double hydra for realz but oh well.

And, of course, whenever there is DT news to be had, you can bet you can probably find it right here on the biggest, most visited Dream Theater fan site on the entire Internet, www.dreamtheaterforums.org!

This site fucking rules. That is all.

I gotta say, the last ten minutes were pretty emotional
It was a bit... too emotional for my tastes. For a 48-year-old grown up man and a famous musicina that he is, Mangini was a bit too emo. That just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm listening to the Elements Of Persuasion and I am becoming more and more saddened by how a boring drummer he is :(

Oh well...

EoP is a straight forward easy to digest metal album.  The next DT record will not sound like that.  To call Mike Mangini a boring drummer is kind of ludicrous.

So a 48 year old man can't be truly deeply excited by getting such an amazing opportunity?

Ummm, EOP is melodic metal.  Not a good guage of his skillsets.  Watch the video below......Case Closed.  You are officially debunked

Plasma, Why would it rub you wrong? If you payed attention, he was determined to be in the band, he just wanted it so much, and it showed in his audition. He got it and was overwhelmed and happy.

No no no.  Plasma said he was emotional and amazing.  jamhet posted the nonsense about Mangini being immature.

Welcome Mike and congratulations!

You did an amazing job with the audition. I am incredibly excited at what your contributions to the new album and the live performances are going to be. I can't wait to see you with the rest of the guys out on tour.
