27. Take The Time[/b][/u]
Some people probably think this song is too low on my list, but obviously, I disagree. It is definitely a great song, but I don't think its anything better than where I've ranked it. It's a really good live song though, the whole intro is amazing. This is one of DT's song I would say is a happy type of song, even though the lyrics may not be it, I just feel the whole sing gives a happy type of vibe. Anyone else feel the same or am I just crazy? :P
I agree. The riff when the double bass kicks in is metal, but happy at the same time.

orcus116

Not too crazy about Panic Attack but I can't argue the other ones.

Sorry about no update yesterday, was quite busy. Heres today's though:

25. Under a Glass Moon
This is such a cool song. The guitar intro is so awesome, its like an epic intro to a TV show or something the way it is built up as the rest of the band comes in. Tbh every single riff in this song is magic. But the one that gets my attention the most is the guitar lick after each chorus. It just sounds so good. And of course the lyrics, although they make no sense they still fit the song. Also the epic solo by JP, which imo isn't in his top 5 solos (which a lot of people seem to think) but still a very epic and memorable one.

24. Endless Sacrifice
So yer the first time I heard this song while listening to ToT I was like cool yer a slower song after As I am and This Dying Soul. Although its softer than those two, its definitely not a slow song. I love the whole build up before each chorus, which makes the chorus even better. But as usual for a DT song for me, the instrumental part is the highlight. If you hadn't noticed from my TDEN description, I love JR's random keyboard stuff he does, and love the part in this song when he does it. The best part of the section has to be the breakdown at the start. Its just so :metal :metal :metal

23. Strange Deja Vu
Words can't describe how much I love this song (and its only at #23!) Every part of this song is amazing. The transition from Overture 1928 to it is perfectly done. James is just great the whole way through. Definitely one of my favourite DT chorus's here too. The bass driven riff is a highlight too, so epic. I can say the same about any part really, this is just one of the reasons why SFAM is so god damn awesome.

Seventh Son

Mofatt, you sure Strange Deja Vu is supposed to be #23 instead of #25? :P

Marvellous G

UAGM's intro actually does sound like the intro to a TV show, that's hilarious and true  :lol

How could you put UAGM so low? Such a nice song.
UAGM is higher up on my list than Mofatt's. I enjoy it, but I think its a bit overrated. It really doesn't get started until the second half of the song.

. Didn't JP do something like learn it backwards then reverse it (or something like that, whatever it is :P). Ino the reasons why a lot of people don't like this song is because of the outro, but again it works for me. The whole guitar work on this song is amazing, and is definitely the type I would love to hear on the next album.

yea he played a solo, recorded it, reversed it and learned to play it vackwards, then recorded the reversed solo for the album... something like that :metal

orcus116

See that is awesome and part of the reason why Six Degrees is my favorite modern DT album. Where is that kind of thinking nowadays?

I rank it my 3rd best DT album so expect more from it :P

Sorry for late update again.

22. Peruvian Skies
This is such a groovy song. All the riffs are just so groovy and cool. I love the way this song builds up. The lyrics are really meaningful and fitting at the same time. I wished I lived in Peru to hear this song live, it would be so awesome and I hope maybe them playing it in Peru encouraged them to maybe start playing it again. I love how it suddenly goes heavy with James's vocals soaring high, the solo is just brilliant too and the riff after the solo :metal

21. Home
WOMP WOMP

But seriously I love the whole Egyptian build up. It just makes WOMP WOMP even better. So many good riffs in this song. SHINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, LIKE A FIRE, so awesome. Tbh I actually don't like the sex noises in the background, ino it would normally be awesome, but in this scenario I'd prefer just to hear the music (even though it makes the storyline a lot more interesting). Instrumental work at the end is just fantastic too.

20. As I Am
This song is so fucking awesome. The intro is just pure :metal :metal :metal. I'd love to see them open with this. Its interesting to hear James swear as well for once. The lyrics may be a bit cheesy but the chorus is a great singalong. The solo is epic too and I like the drum solo but at the same time I'm glad mike stopped doing them after this record as it gets on my nerves when bands try to put drum solo's in a lot of their songs.

Not as keen on As I Am as the others but still good stuff. I haven't seen much more controversy but you've got 19 more chances to stir up the hive.

tri.ad

That's a decent ranking. I don't know whether either song would make it into my top 25, but I can't blame the person for whom it does.

19. Repentance
If there is one song in DT's catalogue that is way too underrated, it is this song. Most people say this is the weakest song of the AA suite, obviously I disagree and also would like to say all of the AA suite makes this list (so you got 2 more to go :p). The whole vibe this song creates is just brilliant. James's voice is so clean and emotional. The guitar riff is so simple yet so awesome. I also have to say sorry MP but Mikael does the "You're Saved" part better than you, and man he does it epicly. The highlight for the song is the guitar solo. Which probably is my second favourite JP solo. Its just so epic, so much emotion and both transactions between it are perfect. The second part of the song is really meaningful and I still struggle to realise who some of the voices are. The harmonising part is good too, awesome bass during that part.

18. Metropolis - Part I (The Miracle And The Sleeper)
Most people will think this song should be a bit higher, but hey like I said before DT is my favourite band so any song on this list is amazing. I probably would call it that trademark DT song as this song shows what DT are all about really. I don't really need to explain why this song is so good really.

17. Fatal Tragedy

This again is one of the first DT song's I liked, and I can count on some good music every time I listen to it. Its one of those songs I never get tired of listening too. This song just builds up and builds up the whole way through then just explodes with an instrumental section (which contains epic unison). It always amazes me that actually the instrumental section is just about half of the length of the song, it never feels like that as it just goes so quickly. One of the highlights for me is 2:05 when JR and JP have that mini trade off with the organ. Its just one of those cool things DT does which somehow work amazingly every time. Portnoy's drumming definitely sticks out for me on this song too. And of course, like every song on SFAM the lyrics are just awesome.

Huge thumbs up for Repentance and Peruvian skies. Metropolis is too low, though...

Fatal Tragedy.  :tup Easily the best song from SFAM for me.

16. In the Presence of Enemies
First of all I think the whole song is amazing, both parts included. I never understand why people have so much hate for part 2. It contains some of the best parts of the song. All of the instrumental work on this song is just fantastic. Prelude being the highlight instrumentally. Although I still think The Reckoning is brilliant. James's sing is also a highlight on the song as it varies so much. The cool light parts in Resurrection and then the epic dark master parts in Heretic. The crowd chanting part in The Slaughter of the Dammed part is brilliant, adds a great touch to the song live. Personally I love these types of DT lyrics. Having a story (be it realistic or unrealistic!) being the focus of lyrics just adds more emotion to the song, and works great in most cases.

15. Sacrificed Sons
Yer another controversial pick but again I don't see why everyone doesn't love this song :P From start to finish this song delivers and certainly progress's the whole way through. There is so much detail put into this song which makes even more better. The lyrics I think are actually good, unlike some peoples opinion on them. JR's work on the continuum is amazing. The score version is so much better and the live orchestra sounds so much better than the studio orchestra. The main heavy riff is just epic with it added on. The instrumental section is bloody amazing. Very good solo by JR, and an epic solo by JP. This song just builds up and up and then explodes with that epic riff after JP's solo, and again the orchestra just adds to it perfectly. MP's drumming is just amazing too, especially on the score version where he adds a lot of improv, especially during the outro which yet again is epic. Man I'd love to see this song live.

orcus116

Part 2 might be the only song/track DT has done that I can't remember a single thing from aside from like 30 seconds of it.

Seventh Son

Heretic is the only section in the song I can listen to. Every other part is garbage and kills what could have been a pretty good song.

I think that's a bit strong, but I will say the the Heretic section is really one of the top 2 or 3 moments from their last 2 albums.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I meant in Part 2 of ITPOE. I have no issues with Part 1 and like it quite a bit. But after DARK MASTER OF SIN I WILL FIGHT FOR YOU the song just collapses faster than a pair of sagging tits.

PlaysLikeMyung

Neither would be that high for me, but good picks nonetheless

maybe you should give it another spin  :corn

does anyone here listen to ITPOE as one song? i do. i think SC is the only album ive never listened to straight through because i HAVE to listen to that song as one, or ill never get to part 2 (i hate that they split up the song)
