Beware, controversial placing incoming.

34. The Shattered Fortress
The final song in the AA suite, and I don't think they could have done a better way of ending it. The new riff is really good for opening the song with, builds up the epicness of the song. I understand why some people don't like it because of most of its riff's/sections already been in a song. But that doesn't bother me as I think they pulled it off great. The ending gives me chills every time.

33. A Change of Seasons
So yer first real controversial pick in my list. I know I will get a lot of hate for this, but I still think its an epic song. DT are my favourite band and there is only like 10 songs that they have written that I don't like. So being placed at #33 is still a very good rank. But yer the best bit has to be the first 2 minutes. The intro is so epic with the build up, and when it bursts into that riff its just :metal IMO I just don't find the second half as good as the first half which is why I prefer 32 other DT songs.

32. Disappear
Now this is a song I love from start to finish. This is definitely DT's saddest song. But man the piano riff is so good. The whole mood this song creates is just awesome. James does brilliant on this song too, which really makes the song. I'd love to see him do more lyrics as I think he has written some great ones, this song being proof.

I would think that there are other songs that you will be more annoyed at being higher than it.

Seventh Son

Even I think ACOS is a tad bit overrated (Although not bad by any stretch), but I still have it higher than that  :|

Disappear is higher up as well, although TSF is a tad bit lower on my list. Other than that, some good picks.

I'm dumb at night, and it's 3 am now.. but I did my best. It's hard because you always forget putting a song or two.

That's why I have up to 84 on my list. That way a single song isn't missed! Dunno if I'd be allowed to do that long of one though.

Why did you post your list?  It's moffatt's turn.

Yeah, I was wondering that too.

Well props to you for having ACOS as number 1. Probably the only choice for Top 1 I'd agree in this thread.

Its definitely one of their best songs, but it really isn't "Best Dream Theater Song Ever" material to me. I dunno, I guess I'm just weird.

Mladen

Yeah, ACOS is too low, but that's what makes things interesting. I would be bored if everybody ranked ACOS in their top 5.

AwakeFromOctavarium

I'm already bored at Octavarium being in everyone's Top 10.

It wouldn't be in mine, but my top10 would be controversial as hell.

31. The Dance of Eternity
One word to describe this song, spontaneous. This is my favourite DT instrumental. They played this song when I saw them at progressive nation and it was so awesome. The riff's are just so good and catchy. Drumming is just insane the whole way through and just seems impossible to keep up with. I mean sometimes I would tap my feet like a bass drum to song, but with this song its impossible to keep up with the rhythm of it. The riff that comes in at 2:05 after the build up has to be my highlight.

30. Constant Motion

So we enter the top 30 with what is another controversial pick. I know a lot of you hate this song, but I love it to bits. This was actually the song that got me into DT properly. So that gives me a lot of respect for it which I'm sure would be the same for anyone's song that got them into DT. I'm more of a metal fan than a progsnob so I like the metal side to DT which is one of the reasons why I like this song so much. The main riff is awesome, instrumental part is fantastic and the solo is epic. I'm also in the minority of liking MP's backing vocals, especially on this song.

29. The Dark Eternal Night
Another pick off SC. This song is brootal, another song that got me into DT. The lyrics don't bother me at all. The main riff is so cool and I love the sound on the bass drum. The chorus is great here too. But the highlight of this song has to be the instrumental part. It lasts just over 3 minutes and is just brilliant the whole way through. From the build up, to the proggy riffs, to JR's random piano fills (which just make the song) to JP's epic solo, this song is just amazing and it one of the reasons I love SC so much. I almost forgot to mention the outro too which is just so  :metal :metal :metal

Seventh Son

Two out of three are in my bottom 10 and the other is in my bottom 20.  :|

moffatt

Let me guess, CM and TDEN bottom 10 and TDOE bottom 20? :P

orcus116

I can honestly say of all the times I've listened to TDEN the word proggy has never crossed my mind.

moffatt

I would say a few riffs are in the instrumental section 4:00 onwards.

I was bored and no one online on MSN, on Facebook. It's not like I'm getting shot at if I post my top 50.

This is you getting shot at.  The thread is about one individual at a time posting their list, 4-5 songs at a time, with short explanations, and people responding to their listings.

If you'd like, I can add you to the list.  That way you can expound more on your choices, as is the custom in the thread.  But it will probably be a while; see the OP.

Actualy, no one minds If I queue up next to the list? I've had a top 50 ready for such an occasion. Plus I like the Format that you guys share with.

28. Panic Attack
Another one of the first DT songs I listened too. The bass is so cool on this song, JMX does so great fret work. This again is the reason why I love DT's metal side a lot. MP's drumming is sick the whole way through. The pre chorus build up is so epic and just makes the chorus even better. The proper chorus is a great singalong too. I love both solo's by JR and JP as well.

27. Misunderstood
Second pick from SDOIT so far, and this song proves really why it is definitely their most experimental album which works for me. I love the acoustic guitar on this track, really cool and mellow. James voices is just brilliant all the way through, he sings the chorus perfectly. The riff before the solo is frickin epic, and the solo itself is also frickin epic, it just sounds soo good. Didn't JP do something like learn it backwards then reverse it (or something like that, whatever it is :P). Ino the reasons why a lot of people don't like this song is because of the outro, but again it works for me. The whole guitar work on this song is amazing, and is definitely the type I would love to hear on the next album.

27. Take The Time

Some people probably think this song is too low on my list, but obviously, I disagree. It is definitely a great song, but I don't think its anything better than where I've ranked it. It's a really good live song though, the whole intro is amazing. This is one of DT's song I would say is a happy type of song, even though the lyrics may not be it, I just feel the whole sing gives a happy type of vibe. Anyone else feel the same or am I just crazy? :P
