I hope not. I'm surprised As I Am, Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, Panic Attack, Metropolis, The Dance of Eternity and Scarred aren't in his top 10. :splodetard:

I cant wait to read and see the rest of the ranks. Doesn't everyone love personal rankings? Its always different than your own and makes you wonder why that song is so high or low.

I've been doing my rankings and much love for the The Great Debate. You think putting it in the 20's was crazy its totally #4 on my list.

I'd be surprised if the ones I bolded were in ANYONE's Top 10.

I know some people who think that TDOE is their favourite DT song.

Jarlaxle

The only reason I said those songs is because they all have either a John Myung solo or intro

Hm. TDOE and Panic Attack aren't either.

But no more spoilers!

I haven't been able to access my computer today so I can't post an update today :-\

25. Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Plus DAT BASS SOLO *drools*. I can play every part of this song on bass EXCEPT the solo. Damn you, John Myung.
well, actually the bass solo is the easiest part of the song for me...

It too early/late to ask for a place on the Queue to post my top 50? I realize that this would would be like years into the future, but eh. :\

Well tDoE was number 15 on my list, but the other two bolded ones are my two least favourite DT songs. Yes, worse than You Not Me. xD

I don't think the songs are awful (although Panic Attack really does nothing for me); I just don't see them as quite Top 10 material.

That would be because I didn't think moving into my apartment would be such a goddamn hassle. I've done nothing but pack and work and go to school for the past two weeks

Guys I apologize but for the time being I do not have internet in my new apartment. All my posting is being done either from my phone or from another computer. Please bear with me. I hate not having internet :-\

I anxiously await the next set of rankings. It's been a good, and sometimes controversial list so far.  :tup

20. Another Won

Okay, so I'm going to cheat on this one and base it off of the Score version with James. Because, let's face it, Chris Collins sucks. A lot. The singing aside, though, I love the music for this song. It's SO ENEGY. SO POWAH. SO HEAVY SOUND, YAH. Plus John's basslines are orgasmic, and the guitar solo is outstanding. So yes, this makes my top 20. When you add James though, this song becomes far more than it ever was on the Majesty Demos. His singing is absolutely superb, and the PASSION'S GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE at the end is flawless. James is one of the best singers out there, no question. This song should be on everyone's list.

19. Take The Time

An Images and Words favorite. Take the Time is a classic and should be treated as such. Really, I don't even know what I have to say about this. Everybody likes this song (except a few people... *coughbrgmcough*). The background vocals for the chorus are absolutely essential but unfortunately there's no way to really recreate that live, so I feel it doesn't hold up as well live as it should.

18. The Glass Prison

The essential Dream Theater metal song. From the riffs to the guitar solo and everything in between, this song screams :metal :metal :metal. Lyrically, I think this is Mike's best song from the AA Suite "Run, fast, from the wreckage of the past, a shattered glass prison wall behind me". Epic :metal. This also has one of my favorite John Myung moments in Dream Theater, the tapping riffs he's doing starting at about 9:37. THAT'S the stuff he needs to be doing if they're going to go in a more metal direction. It floored me the first time I heard it.

17. A Fortune In Lies

I will be honest, I love Charlie's voice. Not as much as James, but still a lot. One thing that bugs me a lot is when people say they don't like the songs on WDADU just because of his voice. KEEP LISTENING. It gets better, honestly. It may not be what you're used to with Dream Theater but that doesn't mean it's not good. Anyway, this song is probably one of the best openers DT has. Not that DT has ever had bad openers. The majority of them are fantastic (though personally I don't feel Pull Me Under works well as an opener). Again, I love the raw energy that's in this song (and the rest of the album). It gives it character that it probably wouldn't have otherwise. The riffs in this song are amazing. And the interlude section where the samples are playing is mind boggling. Seriously, I think I gave myself tendonitis the first time I tried doing that. Yet another song I'd love to hear live.

16. New Millennium

Excellent opener for FII. I think what drew me more to this song was the chapman stick, as I first saw this performed on L@B. It's a strange song, and it doesn't really have a Dream Theater 'vibe', so to speak. But I do love this more than most do. It appears to be one of the divisive songs (on the forums at least). Either people like it or they don't. Either way, it's fantastic and deserves to get some live play again as well.

Jarlaxle

YES! I love Another Won, and I would even consider putting it higher myself. Good placement for Take The Time and The Glass Prison, but I am undecided about the other two. :metal

Marvellous G

I'd have TTT as top ten at least, but kudos for your other placings. Also, Vicarious is the best New Millennium ripoff ever.

Seventh Son

Any list with Take the Time and A Fortune in Lies in it is a good one in my book!  :tup

PlaysLikeMyung

Take the Time is pretty much a given, I think

But I'm glad people approve of AFIL. I don't think most people would place it so high, though

?

Take the Time, The Glass Prison and A Fortune in Lies are great choices!  :tup

New Millennium is better than Take the Time? OK.

Well, apart from this just being my opinion, the lines between ranks are really blurred at this point. I could easily have moved all of these five around.

Also how did you enjoy this Awake-less set of 5? :neverusethis:
