No, I think you misunderstood me. I said WTF because I've never heard of sun poisoning. I assume you're talking about sunburn - in which case, I've never heard anyone call it sun poisoning. If sun poisoning is something completely different, I have no idea what it is and have never heard of it.

It's a more severe sunburn. It usually involves a shit ton of pain and itching, and sometimes blisters (fortunately i don't have blisters)

All of them from Awake, by any chance :neverusethis:

nah.

But there be some controversial choices, to be sure.

I won't be able to post them until later tonight, unfortunately

30. A Change of Seasons

Again, I can hear your screams. Yes, ACOS is only number 30. But goddammit it's a great song. Pretty much from here to the top ten every song is virtually tied. Anyway, ACOS is easily my least favorite epic if only because it feels like some sections of the song drag a bit (The Crimson Sunrise really doesn't do anything for me, to be honest). And, contrary to most opinions, The Darkest of Winters is one of my favorite sections from the song. I do, however, love the lyrical content. This is definitely one of Mike's shining moments as a lyricist (LOLINVENTORY).  Anyway, even though I rank this song at 30, it's easily 9.5/10

29. Caught in a Web

I love. LOVE. Songs about spiderman. But really. This is an awesome, hard-rocking song that I'd kill to hear live. And, just like almost every other song from Awake, James' vocals are absolutely killer here. And I'm sure that now, given his improvement with live singing, he wouldn't mind singing this gem again. This seems to be an much overlooked track on the album. I don't know why. It's definitely more interesting than Lie. If DT are going to write heavy tracks, they need to write them like this again. Less balls, more atmospheric prog.

28. Burning My Soul (Demo Version)

Hm. Did you expect ANYONE to put this song on their list? I doubt it. But this isn't the bland, awful, album version of the song. This is the GOOD version. The demo version flows better than the album version, and the Hell's Kitchen middle section works very well. Hell's Kitchen works on its own, too, but I personally like it better here. And because of that, Hell's Kitchen isn't on this top 50. I don't have a problem with the lyrics here, really. Not sure what everyone else's complaint is with them. Mike isn't the best lyricist DT has ever had, but I don't find them bad here. I'd love to hear this one live. It would be awesome.

27. In The Presence of Enemies

From the opening notes to the final drum fill, this song is an awesome rocking epic. Part one is amazing in almost every way. Prelude is probably the best thing they wrote on Systematic Chaos. But the whole song is almost just as amazing (and yes, I include The Slaughter of the Damned and The Reckoning, because they are awesome also and aren't just mindless wankery as most suggest). And as cheesy as the lyrics are, I think they tell an awesome story. And I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like the ending is ominous in a way that suggests that there's more to it. Like there's more to be written. A Part 3, if you will. That's just me, at any rate.

26. The Root of All Evil

Everybody knows how good this song is. My second favorite section to the AA suite, The Root of all Evil is not only a great song, but one of the greatest album openers they've done. The guitar solo. Epic. And JP nailed it on Score. Amazing. I can't even describe the song the way I want to, so just listen to it. You'll understand (also it's almost midnight and I'm tired so I don't feel very descriptive anyway :P)

Props to you for mentioning CIAW. A really overlooked gem.

Good to see Caught in a web. I'm sure I'd place Burning my soul somewhere in my top 50 as well, but not the demo version. The song is just too catchy to be hated.

TAC

PLM, that's kind of low for ACOS..and TDS for that matter.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

?

ACOS is too low (IMO)! But CIAW is a great song and deserves to be in the top 30.

That's pretty unusual to see ACOS so low on a list, but it's always interesting to read.

This makes me want to listen to the BMS demo tonight, I've barely heard it before.

lol this seems to have gone the way I expected.

But these are the rankings I chose. DT is my second favorite band and I absolutely love the majority of their songs. So even though I love ACOS (I even gave it 9.5/10), I just happen to like some other songs more

Caught in a Web is too high, I never cared for it.
I agree..but I do like what they did instrumentally with it recently.
