So then, BRGM, what are some of your favorite DT songs? inb4 Constant Motion and The Dance of Eternity.

BRGM

Constant motion isn't really that good, but like...
TCOT
Octavarium
ITPOE
ANTR

And so forth

I think I appreciate their longer/newer songs more...yeees

Seventh Son

And I much prefer their older stuff, it seems like there was a hunger in DT back in the day. Nowadays, not so much. I'm not saying they don't put soul into it, but I think they are content with where they are now, instead of being hungry like they were during Images and Words/Awake. If they got hungry again, I think you could see them pulling off something amazing.

Also, I love Voices, but its top 25 material for me, not top 10. But whatever. Just post the next song soon!

8. The Glass Prison - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
At number eight is a song that I have loved since I heard it. It's quality has never waned, never stooped, it hasn't gotten worse. In fact, The Glass Prison gets better every time I hear it. Sometimes I hear the opening riff, sometimes it's the chorus, sometimes it's JP's solos, sometimes it's Mike Pork's unbelievable drumming. But every time, it's heavy as an elephant at McDonald's. It's like Jack Bauer. It's unrelenting. By the time you've heard that first pinch harmonic to open the song, your jaw is on the ground along with all the balls of every male pre-pubescent DT fan. Every time I listen to it I swear my voice gets lower. It's the pinnacle of heavy DT. IMO, they've never matched the overall atmosphere and feeling that this song did (in an effort to set the dark mood, I mean). This is my favourite of all metal DT and IMO the most lasting track from SDOIT.

BRGM

Nice! :D yeah, it's heck of alot better than Voices
The Glass prison is a very good song, and fun/hard to play...at least on guitar

Was never a fan of 12 Step. But oh well...

PlaysLikeMyung

This top 50 is taking forever.

Just sayin

7. Take The Time - Images and Words
It's epic. Energetic. Catchy. Rifftastic. Pure genius! Take The Time is a song that pulls you into a racecar and shoots you 300 mph down the freeway. It's unforgettable. TTT is a staple of all things classic DT - catchy riffs, cool, collected keys, unbelievable vocals and wholly original and new-sounding music. All instrumentation is spot-on, with amazing riffs and solos from both keys and guitar, some great, driving drumming, outstanding basslines, all accompanied by incredible James Labrie vocals. This is a song that just doesn't get old :P

BRGM

Again, not a fan of old DT, but TTT is one of those that I can appriciate listen to a couple of times a year, and it's fun to watch the CiM version.

6. In The Presence Of Enemies - Systematic Chaos
Alright, let's slow things down a bit before we get into our top five. At numero 6 we have ITPOE (parts one and two). This 26 minute epic is absolutely bombastically awesome all the way through, even if by the end it starts to slow down. Of course I can't get into every little detail since the song is so long (or else I'd have to do more work, which is not an option), so I'll just say, IMO, this song hits on all marks but one, again, guess. The guitar melodies are fantastic, I can't imagine better vocal melodies, all of the band for that matter just slays this one and it goes down in history along with the other plus 20's as an amazing DT epic. For me at least. Say what you will about the second half, but I like it and I think it belongs with the rest of the song. Truly a great effort from the band and without a doubt the best song on SC and better for me than any song that's come after it.

Seventh Son

Meh.

I always thought In the Presence of Enemies was good in small bits and pieces, but overall the song is really lame. It wouldn't be in my top 50. But whatever, carry on.

Nic35

ITPOE is indeed a fantastic song. Part 1 is the best song they have written since Octavarium. Part two is awesome as well, but the Dark Master chorus brings it down a little bit.

You don't have to imagine them; you can hear them on many of their other songs throughout their history.

Meh, ITPOE is more of a long song than an epic.

This. If a lot, and I mean a LOT of trimming was done, it would be much better.

Technical or not, the song just isn't that interesting.
