I really like ToT but it would probably end up just outside top 25 for me.

Interesting list so far.....

Although SDV at 20 is extremely disappointing, I expect that song to be in everyone's top ten at least. But oh well.
Welcome to the forums.  You'll find that about half of the DT fans here love SDV as much as you do, and the other half don't care for it very much.  As far as I can tell, it's one of the most divisive songs in DT's catalogue.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Well, I'm a sucker for things that are dark and haunting (Probably why I listen to metal in the first place, and why Hallowed Be Thy Name is one of my favorite songs ever ;) ), and Space Dye Vest is basically that. I have a hard time understanding how one can not love that hauntingly dark piano intro. It tears my soul each time I hear it along with James' "I could never be open again....".

Mladen

Please, don't let this turn into Kevin Moore discussion, cause that's where it could easily be going.  :lol And welcome aboard, by the way.  :tup

Can't wait for the top 10, Pirate.  :yarr

Yeah, I agree with you 100%. When the full band comes in and joins the piano for the main riff it just sounds so dark, it almost gives me chills.

10. Scene Six: Home - Metropolis, Part 2: Scenes From A Memory
Wait, what? There's a surprise! Haha, it looks like Scene Nine isn't my favourite after all! Anyway, I'm sure this is going to be a controversial choice, because wherever there's Home, there's Darkes7 and wherever there's Darkes7 there's controversy . Getting on to the song, I definitely think this is my favourite on Scenes. There's two reasons for that- the first, you can see it's father in it more than any other song on SFAM. And I like that. The second- original implementation. Not only does it bring back some of the most badass parts from the original song (Victoria watches and thoughtfully smiles, she's taking you to your home) the rest of the song is built around them so magnificently (or at least, that's how I see it). The opening sitar riff is sweet, the WOMP WOMP thing is pretty catchy I guess, and the solos are some of the best on SFAM. If I could only have the second part of Metropolis in a song, I would be happy with Home.

Don't tell me I'm the only one who recognizes similarities between it and Kasmir.

skydivingninja

It was number five on my list and I didn't see ANY Darkeses.  Obviously I'm proud of this choice.

Silver Tears

Good song but I wouldn't put it quite so high  :P

fsh3702

actually the most significant song in I&W is <the metropolis part 1>.

this is my most favorite DT song at present.

and i also admire the musical atmosphere of songs like <a fortune in lies> or <afterlife> in the debut album.

as to the ranking of DT songs maybe everybody has his/her own list.

Home would probably be just outside of the top 20 for me. Too many Images and Words/Awake songs would dominate the top 20 for me :P

Really? Less of mine had any actual interesting content though, so you still keep the moral victory.

On topic, if anything I'd place Home higher, but great to see it get the recognition it deserves, even if the Kashmir comparisons still confuse me.

9. Voices - Awake
From the beginning bass riff to the acoustic reprise at the end, Voices is an absolute beast song, start to finish. It has a perfect balance of heaviness, spacey-ness and pure prog-rock. Highlights are the piano break at 1:08, chorus, heavy metal riff with harsh Labrie vocals, great lyrics and of course, Beartrucci's wonderful guitar solo. The piano break builds with the introduction of vocals towards the chorus, which kicks everyone straight in the balls (and it feels sooo good). The following riff continues the carnage and shows us James' darker side. Fast forward to solotime (everything in between is basically of the same token as the piano break, with extra melodic vocals), and you're headed for the bluesiest lollercoaster ride on JP's own Speed-Mountain. Voices ends a timeless DT classic that most people (with the balls) can enjoy.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Mladen

An obvious choice for most of the people, but not for me. Rather overrated in my opinion, I like half of Awake much better.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Even you surpassed the 1000 mark so fast. :sadpanda:

Yeah I did try to cut back on my posting a little while ago but that didn't last long...
