Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Like the first part this is very much a mixed bag but the song STILL BREATHING literally just made me cry and I'm pretty sure a song's never done that to me before so... that's gotta count for something.

I love Iceland and I really like that Solstafir. When I was there (jeez, almost a decade ago, now) there was a significant amount of Sigur Ros being played  :lol

Yea I made a playlist of Icelandic artists which mainly comprised of Sólstafir, Sigur Rós, Björk, Agent Fresco and The Vintage Caravan. I found some other cool bands though, as well as finding out that We Made God and Kontinuum are also Icelandic.

Saw these guys live and was totally blown away! They should get more love. After the show I hit their merch booth hard!!! Super cool dudes too!

I've been getting into Revocation this last year as well. I made a Spotify playlist, that started off as all the classic death metal albums I'd yet to check out. As time went on I added more modern death/progressive death/tech death bands to the mix. Chaos of Forms is my favourite album of theirs but that's probably more melodeath to be honest. I've been digging Obscura as well, who are similar.

Great band.

Your posts reminded me I've been wanting to check the band out for a while and never did. I've spun Chaos of Forms and it's pretty great. Love the technical thrash influence in there!

Some good stuff there, Chad. I love that Odd Dimension album. Still gets listens. And that's easily my favorite Avantasia album. I remember you pimped that DGM album hard.

This doesn't seem to be available on streaming platforms...I was curious because I'm reading the band was born out of the ashes of this Italian prog metal group, Zen, that only released one album (Gaze Into the Light) in 1997. That record was clearly part of the post-I&W wave of prog metal that flourished during that period - not terribly innovative or anything, but it had some cool stuff and held promise. Is this worth some further digging?

Speaking of which:

Revisiting as we speak...

It's actually pretty good, as I remembered. You can tell the keyboard player is the "main guy" (I believe he's the one the carried on with Karnya)...the keys often carry the melodies...even in the solos...

The vocalist sounds a teeny bit, I don't know, "off" at times? Maybe it's the accent that's a little distracting. The vocal melodies are good, though.

Overall, solid prog metal from that era.

Hell yea  :metal

I went through a bit of a Cathedral phase last year. Can't say I LOVE them but I really dig their vibe at certain times.

Metanoia is great and every time I relisten I think it creeps up my ranking for the year. Not quite as good as Aathma, but it's a slightly different sound I feel, so that's fine.

The Persefone was okay, but nothing comes close to Spiritual Migration.  Nothing else sticks with me.

Yeah, I dug that Cathedral CD out and didn't really realise how incredible it is.  Just amazing , crushing doom.
