So this is your motivation to heed my suggestions unless you really wanna play it risky:
since we're in the back half, I'm not gonna be so generous with points going forward. There are still 4 rounds left, so give it your all. This was a really interesting round that was all over the map... and feel free to have fun with the writeup stuff I put at the end of each result. Or not.
HERE WE GO, PART 1!* * *

Steve and the Seagulls - Thunderstruck 7.0 I applaud the creativity. 100%. That's what this is all about, and exactly the kind of left turn I like to see people take in roulettes. It doesn't always work, though. It's not a bad cover by any means, it's actually fun and charming, but the novelty wore off really fast and isn't something I'd go back to after listening for the roulette.
Supertramp - School 5.8 Didn't expect this. It takes over two minutes for something to actually happen here, and then it slows down again. It gets enjoyable once the piano bit comes in, but then it peeters out at the end. There's only about the minute from 3:00 to 4:00 that I like, unfortunately. Is this a different singer? I swear I've heard Supertramp on the radio before and it sounded way different than this.
White Lion - Lady of the Valley 8.5 This grew on me. That voice is the most typical 80s rock voice (but it's good), and the solo is really fun. At first I thought it went on too long, but on repeat listens I love that 'whoa-oh' bit at the end because it sounds so similar to ZP Theart, another singer I love. Good song with a memorable chorus.

7 spaces down the way, Dirk encounters a Chained Orc! A mad grin crosses his face - as if he heard your incantations, he thinks he'll be dining on manflesh this evening. Wilst thou fight, or hide in the bushes like a noob?* * *

Type O Negative - World Coming Down 8.1 Good song that gets better as it goes on. At first I really didn't like this, but on repeat listens it got much better. It's nice and doomy and gloomy the entire time but it really gets awesome at 8:00, and the big, almost tribal grunts give it that primal energy it's been building towards the whole song. I kind of tune out during the middle but otherwise I dig it.
Type O Negative - September Sun 8.7 What I really like about this is that it sounds like Type O Negative but it plays around with that sound enough to stand out. Lovely use of synths, impressive vocals especially in the middle section. Sick solo. I like how it builds all the way to the end. Really good song.
Type O Negative - Anesthesia 7.4 My favorite thing about this song is that piano lick that is painfully absent from most of the song. I'm fairly certain I hear a harpsichord (sounds synthetic though) which is cool. Doomy riff with glittery synths and Steele's vampiric voice sounds great. But it isn't that catchy outside of that piano riff. Good song, but not blowing my mind.

Moving 8 spaces deeper into the darklands of Kelhosia, Owl Screech is suddenly ambushed by an unfamiliar terror. Disembodied skulls, surrounded by ghostly flame, rush from the night to circle the poor Kenku assassin. You suddenly wonder if you taste like chicken.* * *

Gentle Giant - Acquiring The Taste 9.4 Short and sweet and to the point. This sounds like the inspiration for all the early-era video game chiptune music I enjoy so much. Sounds like Super Nintendo music for a Final Fantasy town or something. I adore the choice of synth voices and the counterpoint in the composition. Fucking awesome bit of music especially given the year, but painfully short because it ends right as it's getting to the best stuff.
Steely Dan - Rikki Don't Lose That Number 7.7 I like just about everything here. Pretty inoffensive track, but unfortunately not quite as memorable or striking as the two other Steely Dan tracks I know (for the record: Do It Again, Bodhisattva). Reminds me that I need to listen to more Steely Dan.
Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon 8.8 An unexpected hit. I like pretty much all the Billy Joel I've ever heard, but never heard of this song. The vocal melody and lyrics complement each other great, with a happy but sad chorus that I think is done extremely well. Doesn't feel like a 7 minute song to me, in a good way.

As you crest a hill, a rotting treant sights you from off the road! The sound of cracking and splintering wood terrifies you as it twists and bends, lurching at you from off the beaten path. Suddenly you regret not buying those whetstones from those traveling merchants yesterday.
