Evermind/Elite: Anciients – Raise The Sun/The Longest River

Alright I don’t know if I’m going to do duplicate band results like this every time but I think with this kind of thing it’s interesting to compare the two. Can already tell that they won’t receive the same score though.

<snip>

...and so I came up with the same score for both Anciients songs.

7.75/10

Okay then.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Eh I had a feeling. Thought of better stuff to send as soon as I sent it. Last week was absoutely crazy so I just ended up sending for the sake of sending rather than using my best judgement, based on your like of Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree I thought that would be OK, but I haven't listened to OSI extensively in years.

I'm going to use one of my bonuses this round, I know what bonus, just need to decide which one to send.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

whoops :lol now that the cat's out of the bag, at first it was 7.5 for RTS and 8.0 for TLR but they evened out a few days later in the final stages of scoring.

based on your like of Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree I thought that would be OK,
That makes sense, I got a strong SW vibe from the vocals at a few points but it's just on another level for me. Also not the biggest SW fan but I do really enjoy what I've heard so far from his solo stuff and PT.

Surprised to see Dir en Grey won the round. I'm a little jealous as I was planning to send a Dir en Grey track next with hopes of getting a 7.0 or 8.0 max and then a bonus for foreign language. I probably would have sent something off Oroboros as well

Really glad to see them scoring highly though  I know what you mean about the Korn bass sound. They do go a bit Nu-metal at times it must be said. Still haven't listened to their most recent album yet.

I had to look back into my youtube search history because I knew I checked out a Dir En Grey song at some point and it was the song with a video clip of them in glass boxes, called Uroko. I was kinda terrified of their music at that point :lol but this song really hit me, best song of the roulette so far :metal I'm sure this album will be a beast.

Yep, Dir En Grey are crazy. I think I first saw it on somebody's top 50 list back when I joined DTF.
EDIT: Found it, it was Zantera's list in 2013.

Don't think I've ever seen any of their music videos, bet they are all kinds of crazy. I think I may have sent you a song called Macabre actually if I had sent Dir en Grey. It's one of my favourites by them and I think one of the first ones my old flat mate played to me 10 years ago  :|

No, I'm happy with the way things happened. I would have sent a different song by Dir en Grey, got a low score, witnessed you getting a high score with Winter next round, lost all faith in my self, questioned my very existence and gone into a never ending spiral of depression. I've already suffered the blow of the UK population voting us out of the EU, couldn't have taken that as well!!

Kind of disappointed with an 8 actually, I had higher expectations for that song.

Edit: submitted my next song through Spotify.

I gots half the submissions in, and splent you can still submit a guess for bonus round #3, it's listed at the bottom of round 3 results.

So I'll take 6 more songs and 7 more guesses

I need more Japanese music in my life tbh.
Truth. Though Dir En Grey being Japanese did not influence my scoring at all. Sometimes it adds to my enjoyment when there's foreign lyrics, while here it was just the song being fucking great.

Sent. I'm surprisingly above the cut off point now and want to stay there. I don't want to try and play it too safe but also don't want to drop a few places and get eliminated  :tdwn

Just got to go with my gut I guess. Don't want to just send stuff that has progressive metal elements. Going to send some more straight forward metal and possibly some unexpected genres.

Glad you liked Slowdive's version of Golden Hair! Sent a song trough Spotify, I hope that worked.

I don’t know if it’d be awkward to attend a band like this live but this crowd seems pretty legit. I would probably just want to listen to music like this when I’m alone in the perfect setting, but whatever floats their boat.

I wonder how it is to see music like this live, it does seem so.. magical or something. I haven't seen any shoegaze or postrock live yet though, (I am really looking forward to seeing Sigur Ros at Lowlands  :hat )

Tfw Sacul halves the length of his chosen instrumental and it's still long enough to count as his one epic.
