I'm sure it's a spoken-word ambient track with JR playing some pads while Myung retells the astonishing story of how he did a bass solo in a bass solo.

Absolutely brilliant. Definitely the post of the album cycle so far, for sure.

And LOL @ Bosk for being in "ban everything" mode there for a solid minute.

Makes me really psyched for WYTHC.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

Here is a tangent, but I thought this was cool and somewhat related to the new album discussion.  So, by way of background for those who are new to the forum, at the release of DT12, I organized a video chat with the band where they answered questions that were compiled by members of the forum, and the video was saved on YouTube.  A link to the thread is here:  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=39047.0

The YouTube link is here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx8cLlXnHpA&feature=youtu.be

SO many cool things discussed.  Some of the highlights are:  Lots of cool discussion about DT12; John Myung speaks; John Petrucci on smoking and rubbing his chicken; etc.  But the reason I am posting it again in this thread is because there is interesting discussion at 13:06 about how the band feels about maybe some day writing a double album.  Pretty cool.  :)

So you're the guy who ran this interview! Nice job, you're a great host!

Hoping to see what type of press you did with the band  :)

No, you're not..

I mean, I like the art cover.. But: another sky on a DT album cover?.. Seriously guys?.. I think that with ACoS, FII, 8V and ADtOE we had enough of those.. Not to mention I&W, Awake and BC&SL, in which it also appears.. Looks very redundant to me..

That's probably because they're still lost in it....

By the looks of DT side, I think many people are getting restless at this point. :lol

If so, then people need to grow an attention span (not to mention some gratitude, given how much information has been released and is scheduled to be released).  But patience will be rewarded.  ...especially this week.

Now i wonder was the cover this what bosk was talking about :D
It seems that they're entering an area of extreme hazard. A zone of some sort. A dangerous one.

With the 8 spherical NOMACS and the Metropolis in the background, it's definitely Octavariopolis 2: part 3, The Astonishing is just a proxy

I'm not going back through 60 plus pages of posts to see if anyone mentioned this but if someone did, I'll mention it again. Are we to assume that the NOMACS are more advanced versions of drones?

Just a thought, but maybe its because those covers featured landscapes in them which were kind of.... outside. In my experience, the sky generally tends to feature in things that are outside.

I can give you dozens and dozens of examples of album covers showing outside's places and where are not skies.. I think you mean that those DT covers feature panoramic landscapes, which is a different thing..

The number of possible elements that can be included in a cover is enormous.. That's why it seems a waste to insist on the same element in so many different albums..

Mine is just a thought too though.. We're nothing but thoughts.. Actually we're more than that, but the phrase looks cool..

Ahh, welcome to DT Forum - a place where you can get corrected for saying 'landscapes' instead of 'panoramic landscapes', and having the sky in too many album covers is dealt with cries of disenchantment. How can you not love it?  ;D

The theory was hinted at already but, yeah, good point. I'm also intrigued at the 6 different eyes on the green screens. Could it be these machines are mentally driven by 6 different persons?
