Well I was at one of the best fights ever.  Micky Ward vs. Arturo Gatti.  When the bell rang after the last round the whole place broke out in fights, beer flying everywhere, guys ripping off shirts it was nuts!  Animal instincts really.  It was amazing.  Though there has been some real clunkers I've been to as well.

That sounds awful, and exactly what I'd expect from people who enjoy watching other people beat the shit out of each other for money.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Morning guys.

Got to sleep in today.

And woke up with several missed calls and texts  and emails from work.

It never ends.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Yep ! if CGI is really good then you shouldn't even notice it.

Or know it's even CGi like the feather in Forrest Gump or Gary Sinise's missing legs for example.

*Disclaimer - the feather looked pretty good back in the day - no idea how it holds up today.

This is the case for many newer movies. I haven't watched the video you linked yet, but even the title is basically spot on. When you have a CG character at the forefront, people know it's CG, and notice the flaws. When an entire background is replaced with CG, it's often seamless and goes unnoticed.

I said we were getting better. I didn't say we were there yet.

I know they weren't human, but I think the Na'vi in Avatar have been the most convincing CGI main characters so far.

What do you mean "we"? You're not the one making it. :lol

I think the fact Avatar wasn't human was still one of the biggest factors. People can recognize even the tiniest discrepancy when it comes to the human face, a lot of which is not an issue (or much less) for blue cat people despite being very humanoid. That includes the correct look of skin with sub surface scattering and pores, the complex muscle structure used for expression (although the mouthes were basically human and are probably the best I've seen), and the eyes, which are very hard to replicate to look alive, and perhaps the part of the face humans are most tuned to, being the first part of the face we focus on and recognize when we're young.

That's not to take anything away from Avatar, but not being human makes a huge difference at a sub-conscious level, which is why the uncanny valley so far still proves to be uncrossed in my opinion.

Fair enough. James Cameron says on the behind the scenes stuff that the eyes are the most difficult element when making a CGI face. He said if he didn't get the eyes right, no one would buy into the na'vi as being characters they should care about.

As for "we", I meant the royal we, man

CGI Jeff Bridges from Tron Legacy was impressive.
