Metallica turned into a disappointment of a band. After the Black album they just lost what I love about them.

I don't think I've given Reload more than 5 listening sessions, and those happened 10+ years ago, but I loved "Low Man's Lyric". The only song from that album whose melody I remember (well, besides the singles).

I haven't listened to Load, although I really liked "Until It Sleeps" at the time.

Reload isn't THAT bad.

That, although I definitely prefer Load overall. Reload has several redeeming songs though, including Fuel which is awesome. Yeah, I said it.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I had gotten on the Metallica bandwagon pretty early on, having bought RTL when it was first released in 1984. Pretty much loved everything they did up through TBA.

When I picked up Load, my first reaction was wtf is this sh*t and I practically dismissed it. But over the years I've warmed up to it ( maybe I just got over the shock?) and now I can say that I love the album. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Reload.

:metal :metal :metal Have fun. If you don't like this album, listen to the others anyway. This one is VERY different from the rest of their discography.

I'd recommend more listens. It's not all that accessible, but definitely one of the most unique metal albums that I know.

arcane: meh, didn't like this one that much actually, it was decent

The second half is a little samey and I think the guitars could be a little more varied (the riffs are a little samey and there are too few solos - who'd have thought a prog band would ever be criticised for that!) but I really like the album anyway. "Unturning" is one of my favourite songs of 2015, that outro is amazing.

mono: was kind of disappointed by both of these albums, this one moreso though

Really? Probably my favourite of theirs, all in all (though I count both "The Last Dawn" and "Rays of Darkness" as one album). They complement each other perfectly and the heaviness and darkness of Rays of Darkness is something that I'm very fond of. Though I could have done with "The Last Rays" being a little shorter, but the rest of the album is perfect, imo.

thrice:  :heart easily prefer this half to the second half but both are great

No argument from me there. The only song on Water I'm not totally in love with is "Digital Sea", the rest is superb. "The Whaler" and "Kings Upon the Main" are two of my favourite Thrice songs ever.
