I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Well, that joke got kinda killed with the subtitles....

I wouldn't know what a leek looks like, so I wouldn't have gotten the joke without the subtitles.  I mean, it's not laugh-out-loud funny anyway, it's just a pun, but it's alright.

I don't really know what a leek looks like either, but the context is enough to let you know "ok, that's a leek". Putting "leek" in the subtitle as opposed to "leak" completely gives away the pun joke before the actual punchline. Obviously the joke works better in language than text, but it still wasn't the best way to pull it off.

This whole new trend of "let's take a funny video and convert it into a slideshow with subtitles" is kinda lame anyway.

Leeks look like very big scallions (a.k.a. green onions), but I've never used them, so I don't know how similar they are in flavor.

They're not nearly as strong in flavor as onions, I would even say close to sweet.

What has the world come to when there is a discussion about the merits of a GIF from a movie coming out soon. :lol

And, honestly, would you have guessed in a million years that we would have an emoticon for 'leeks' on DTF?  I know I probably wouldn't have.  And to take it one step further, would you have guessed in a million years that there would actually ever be a reason to post with a 'leeks' emoticon?  Yeah, I didn't think so.  Let this be a lesson to everyone:  Don't EVER underestimate the power of my emoticons.  EVER!

Pokemon came out after I had become an adult, so no.

And why is Larry called the Italian Scallion?  He's a cucumber!

I figured it was a reference to Rocky, the Italian Stallion.  Cucumbers and scallions are both vegetables, so close enough.

It is.  I've seen that.  Veggie Tales are awesome.

Not close enough!

We've got a Veggietales book where Larry tells someone he's a cucumber, not a pickle.  It matters to him!

Poor Larry, he gets no respect.  Of course it matters to him, but people are stupid.  The rhyming pun is seen as more important than taxonomic accuracy.

I'm somewhat familiar with VeggieTales.  My kids were getting too old for them by time they were popular, but we have a few videos of theirs.  They're awesome.  But I've never seen the Italian Scallion.
