Anyone else think the percussionists have big fights to decide who gets to do that?

Also, I think it's way cool that there are 5-string upright basses, and trumpets with side valves are weird.

Maybe he is so clueless that this is how he actually casts.  And people saw how idiotic he looks, so they started recording him, hoping he'd do something postworthy, and sure enough, he delivered.

As a percussionist there's lots of interesting instruments you get to play. I never played these but for example, in Symphony Fantastique there's a part for church bells and various orchestras find diffrent ways of playing that part. Most of them uses small bells or tuned metalsheets and some uses digital recordings but then of course there's orchestras that go all in and uses real church bells or custom made of sort.

Now this is played live but off stage behind the scene with the use of in-ears and a monitor to see the conductor.

There's also Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture with a notated part for cannons. Now about 95% of all perfomances uses either a concert bassdrum or playback with cannons but of course as with everything some take it more serisouly and uses real artillery.
