Wham! is the sound of the door slamming on Orbert's way out of this thread.

 :rollin :rollin

Someone call him a Whambulance... he's so hurt by what George did to his girlfriend.   :lol :lol

If not for nostalgia, this song would have zero redeeming qualities.

That said/emoted, the song really sucked.  So did the band.  George was MUCH better on his solo stuff.

Would be okay if I pointed out that I'm not the one making a big deal about the girlfriend thing?  I just told my story, same as everyone does.  People kept asking if I was serious, I was, I explained, and yeah, it's totally hyperbolic, but... that's just how I roll.  You all know that.

And the song has zero redeeming qualities anyway.

Wait... the horns are pretty cool when they come in.

There.  I said something nice about a George Wham song.

It's a fun party song, but yes, George was hugely more gay in Wham than in his solo career

Europe - Rock the Night

This song so reminds me of 7th grade; that was when this song was popular.  A bunch of us were all digging the Europe hits, and Rock the Night was one I liked a lot.  It just had that great rock out, fun vibe going on, and the video couldn't have gone with it any better....just some fun rocking out. :metal

Not a single bad song on that album. Great little tune here. Europe was a band that evolved quite nicely.

I should add again that for a spell in 1988, Europe was my favorite band (thanks to The Final Countdown and Out of This World).  And part of the appeal for me when I first heard DT was that they sounded, at the time, to me like a heavier and ballsier Europe.  The lead guitar playing at the beginning of Let the Good Times Rock is very DT-esque, IMO.  I think that juicy lead tone that John Petrucci had in so many places on Images & Words reminded me of that Europe song.

Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive

Good song.  I always liked it, even when I was nuts over Slippery When Wet back in the day (but who wasn't? :lol), but I would hesitate to say that I ever loved this tune.  To its credit, it is probably the least-sounding 80s song out of all of their 80s hits.  In other words, it sounds more timeless than the others, most of which sound very much like time period songs.

Like a lot of songs from the 80s, Wanted Dead or Alive worked best in an episode of Miami Vice. This one appeared in an episode that starred Willie Nelson as an old retired Texas Ranger who was in Miami looking to avenge his son's death. Pretty kick ass episode. Generally have never been really big on rock songs where the band compares themselves to cowboys (as opposed to singing about BEING a cowboy, because Cowboy Song is my favorite Thin Lizzy song), but Wanted did work well in the Miami Vice episode.

Excellent song.  People always seem to dig this song and this is one of those solos where its simplicity is its greatest asset.  It is perfect as it is.  Anything faster or more showy would've been all wrong.

Generally have never been really big on rock songs where the band compares themselves to cowboys

One of my bands is working on Modern Day Cowboy.  :lol

Excellent song, and one that has aged very well. I still listen to it very regularly. As Cozmo said, perfect solo. Sambora was good at writing the simple and catchy solo, without showing off for the sake of showing off.

I always wondered why he road a stale horse.  Doesn't make any sense.  A sandwich can get stale; leftovers can get stale; but a horse?

It took an SNL sketch to point out that he rides a steel horse, and that that's a metaphor for a bus.  Or something.  But it still sounds like he's saying "stale horse", and if it takes an SNL sketch to explain something to you, maybe you're being a bit too obscure.

I always took it as a steel horse referenced a motorcycle.

Also, I just read that Richie Sambora is sitting out the current leg of their tour.
