I think Cinderella is one of the better hair bands of the 80s. The debut from them is stellar; including this tune.
I agree. Some great tunes on the debut like Push Push, Once Around The Ride, In From The Outside.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Ahh, Nobody's Fool. If you looked sideways at it, you realized what a rip of Def Leppard's Bringing On The Heartbreak it was.

Really?  I've never thought that.  Yeah, I guess the chords are similar (maybe same chords even), but they're not really similar songs.

...the one thing I remember most was the stories about how their drummer apparently couldn't manage to get recording in the studio right (which was caused, in part, by a session drummer finishing up the recording of the first album before Fred Coury joined, and Cozy Powell being credited for the drums on Long Cold Winter)-which doesn't say a lot about their music now does it?  :lol

Yeah, I remember the Coury stories as well.  Not a great drummer.  But whatever.  For the stuff they played, nothing really technical was required.  But are you sure it was Powell?  I seem to recall that Denny Carmassi got the credit on that album.

EDIT:  Just had to look it up.  Actually, they are BOTH credited, so I guess we both got it right.   :lol

But, yeah, I liked them a lot.  The first two albums were just terrific.  They lost me a bit after that.  I thought Heartbreak Station and Still Climbing had some good songs, but were too stripped down, and just got a bit too funky with the horn sections, etc.

You guys and girls are silly. :lol

Speaking of silly...

Crowded House - Something So Strong

Good song, and one of the silliest videos ever, simply the band and some friends goofing around in a barn while performing the song.  Some probably think the video is a bit too silly, but to me it just looks like a bunch of people having a good time and acting like jackasses. And what's wrong with that?? :hat

Off the top of my head, I cannot recall this song.

It rings a bell... a very tiny bell, but for the most part I'm with TAC.  Can't say I remember the tune.

Remember the song, but it's MASSIVELY overshadowed by Don't Dream Its Over, which for me was the single best pop song of the 80s. Video was pretty harmless fun, though.

Never liked Crowded House. Something So Strong was a good song though, but I don't remember the video.

Don't Dream It's Over was either way overplayed, or just not very good. Perhaps both.

I really love Crowded House. I saw them live at the Minnesota Zoo's Amphitheater and it was really good. Something So Strong is a great song.

It's sad what happened to their drummer

LL Cool J - Going Back to Cali

For some reason, Totally 80s plays this video all of the time, which seems odd since it wasn't that popular or played that much at the time.  Rap has never been to my liking, so I can't say I was ever much of a fan of it.

Wow, seems like we've been in Less Than Zero mode around here a lot lately.  We had Hazy Shade Of Winter, then the Bring The Noise discussion on the DT side, and now this.  I think it's a sign that I need to go out and try to scare up a copy of this soundtrack.

I don't remember seeing the video much, but the song was kinda quirky and fun.  Given that it was on the soundtrack, which I had, I actually gave this song a lot of play.  I find that in terms of rock, pop, and rap, there was a pretty balanced mix that made it a pretty good listen all the way through.

Yo, I don't think so. :lol

Anyhoo - LOVED this song back in the day.  Still do.  There's just something about late 80s/early 90s rap that is just so awesome to me.

I mean, think about it - you have, at the VERY least, Beastie Boys, Run DMC (Raising Hell was SO huge, even at the podunk school I went to for my junior/senior years), LL Cool J, NWA, Ice-T, Public Enemy, Digital Underground... and I'm sure I'm leaving TONS out too... :lol

I don't have too much rap music in my collection, just the Run DMC "You be Illin'" single on vinyl and Young MC's "Stone Cold Rhymin'" on CD. Money well spent, if you ask me.

I just saw it at the record store, remembered that I had heard "Christmas in Hollis" the Christmas before, and thought, "yeah, this is what rap should be". The single was two dollars and had "Hit it Run" as a B-Side, which is a decent song in itself.

This was when I was just getting into Dream Theater. A Dramatic Turn of Events was released at about that time, and it's been a lot of fun ever since.

That's what first got me into late 80's rap. It was fun, it wasn't forced or anything. It didn't have to be overtly adult to be good. If it related to you, it was good. "Roll with the punches" by Young MC is a pretty good example of rap that is uplifting, fun, and even a little inspiring.

I'll never forget hearing "I Wanna Rock/Doo Doo Brown" on the radio in the early 90's with my buddies.  I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life.

That was either 2 Live Crew or Luke after he went solo.

don't get your hopes up.  I'm sure most of the hilarity stemmed from hearing it with 3 or 4 other middle-school aged boys.

Yeah, it was Luke Skywalker. That song plus DJ Jimi's Where They At owned Q-93's Hot 8 at 8 countdown for the better part of the first half of 1992. Steven Wilson ain't got shit on DJ Jimi's lyricism.
