New Order - True Faith

One of the more entertaining videos of the later 80s, as it features a bunch of characters dressed in colorful outfits slapping each other (humorously, to the beat of the song), beating each other up and dancing, all at the same time.  Pretty entertaining, to say the least.  Good solid dance song, too.

I have a remix of this that I listen to all the time. I love it. And I honestly can’t say I recall the video, or even the last time I heard a non-remix version of this song. New Order had some good tunes, especially Blue Monday – another song with some great remixes.

That remix was good! :tup :tup

Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes

This is one of those songs I never really liked a lot or disliked, but is one I associate with a specific time period, simply because it was played so much at the time I was first listening to music a lot.  It was all over the radio and MTV in 1981, so it was impossible to avoid.  I think it was number 1 for like seven or eight weeks, IIRC.

I remember really liking this track when i was very young... like 4yrs old.  And Carnes' voice was very unique.

Oh yes, while it was actually a hit (which is not what you can say about a LOT of early MTV videos) this song was definitely a mainstay of the early days of MTV when the policy was "You made a music video? WE'LL PLAY IT." Pretty sure at one point it was on every other hour. Man, early MTV was so weird and so fun all at once.

Her voice bugs me, but I watched the video because I always loved the slapping-in-unison scene.

Dire Straits - Walk of Life

This was on of the few songs by them, growing up, that I liked, helped in large part by the video, featuring a wide array of sports bloopers, falls, etc.  Whoever put that collection of sports clips together for this video deserves high praise:

I love Dire Straits to death. One of my favorite bands, and Making Movies is one of my favorite albums ever. Seeing them become huge with Brothers In Arms pleased me greatly, and I was always happy when one of their videos came on MTV. Was just listening to this album earlier in the day, and while, to be honest, I liked their earlier albums more (I really liked when they got their prog on with Love Over Gold), Brothers In Arms still holds up as a great album. This was a nicely edited video for a rather catchy song. Mark Knopfler could make a guitar wail, but he had a knack for writing catchy as hell songs.

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

Pretty good song, and another one of those songs that was impossible to avoid if you watched MTV or listened to the radio at the time; it was hugely popular and everywhere.  I remember it being the song that finally knocked The Police's Every Breath You Take out of the number 1 spot on the Billboard chart after eight weeks of it reigning at the top.

This was the kind of music I listened to when it was released, so I liked it plenty.  My tastes changed shortly thereafter.  Don't really care for it now, other than the nostalgic aspect.

There are a handful of videos from the early days that I'd consider truly iconic, and this is one of them.  Annie's look, from the short, bright red hair to the business suit, was stunning.  Dave's strings were obviously synth, but in the video he's playing a real cello.  What up with that?  Just some minor mindfucking, nothing to get excited about, but still pretty cool.  Annie's amazing voice.  The song itself had that incessant beat.  This was one of the videos you had to watch when it came on.

Definitely not my thing, then or now, but I can appreciate it, both as a perfect example of 80s pop and a perfectly crafted music video. One of the most iconic songs and videos of the decade.

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy

This song was never on my radar.  Even when it was played back in the day, I either didn't pay attention to it or I changed the channel.  I wouldn't say I hated it, but it did absolutely nothing for me.

Hall & Oates - Say It Isn't So

These guys had a million hits back then, and out of all of them, this was probably one of my two or three favorites.  I love the musical intro, and the driving verses are a great set-up for the wonderful chorus; very catchy and fun to sing along to.  The video wasn't anything special, but was still effective.  I always noticed what a presence John Oates was in their videos. Maybe it was the mustache :lol, but you were always watching what he was doing.

80's Hall & Oates = awesome.

I'm not sure they had a bad song in the 80's.  I would've said ever, but I can't say I've heard much of their 90's-current catalog.

Cinderella - Nobody's Fool

I loved this song to death when it first came out, but it didn't have a lot of staying power with me.  Maybe it's because just about every other subsequent Cinderella song/video was a snoozer for me, but this song just didn't do it for me once it wore off me.  Listening to it now, it is okay, but still nothing to get excited about.

Keifer's got one of the most distinct voices from the 80s glam bands.  Wasn't a huge fan of this one, but it was all right.

Ahh, Nobody's Fool. If you looked sideways at it, you realized what a rip of Def Leppard's Bringing On The Heartbreak it was.  :lol I kid, but it did rather obviously follow the early 80s power ballad formula, which really did get a lot from Def Leppard. Never really had a lot of time for Cinderella back then; the one thing I remember most was the stories about how their drummer apparently couldn't manage to get recording in the studio right (which was caused, in part, by a session drummer finishing up the recording of the first album before Fred Coury joined, and Cozy Powell being credited for the drums on Long Cold Winter)-which doesn't say a lot about their music now does it?  :lol

I think Cinderella is one of the better hair bands of the 80s. The debut from them is stellar; including this tune.

Was only a moderate Cinderella fan, but always thought this was a great song.
