I thought it was decent, so if this is their weakest, I definitely have to check their older stuff.

You even love Eyewitness?

Yeah, I did.  Now, I've only given their albums (at most) a couple of listens.  Look, when you listen to 11 albums within a couple of months, and have no history or pre-disposition to any album, I've got completely open ears.  Now, I couldn't identify anything from that album, but on the list of everything new I'm trying out, I did make note that Eyewitness was one I liked.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Despite this being incredibly short I expect someone will pick up on it.

I'd prefer it be something like, "I think that's the _th track off an album, and if that's your pick the album is excellent!" Be vague so other people can still guess.

11. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

This album would be in the top 10 if only it had some flow ;). I first heard this album in 2004 after the band was getting major push at then DT.net. I didn't really care for the album at the time except for tracks 1, 2, and 4. I really wasn't into prog in general yet and so I kinda dismissed the album. Years past and I checked out another album or two, but never really got into them. Fast forward to 2007. JustJen got me to go with to my first Porcupine Tree show and that's when I became a huge fan. I went back to this album, having then been fully into prog and absolutely loved it. The tracks I mentioned are still my favorites, but I love the rest to death as well now. Although not done by Steven Wilson, the 5.1 mix of this album is absolutely stellar as well. It's funny that an album I once dismissed is now signed by the band and is one of my most prized pieces in my collection because of that.

Favorite tracks: The Sound of Muzak, Trains, Blackest Eyes

Honorable mention: Secret Sphere - Heart and Anger

In Absentia is pretty good, but I don't think it's as amazing as I used to think when I discovered the band.
I sorta loose interest in the second half, while there are good songs there (like .3, Heartattack and Collapse), the rest feels kinda meh to me. Gravity Eyelids and Trains are the only songs on the album that would rank in among my top30 PT-songs.

Well, I'm not big into Porcupine Tree, but when I hear albums like Signify I can hear the appeal.  ...when I hear albums like In Absentia I just wonder why it gets so much praise.  Of all their stuff, the most popular period seems to be when they sounded the most generic.

Odd, because I feel the opposite.  The early stuff generally doesn't interest me, whereas In Absentia and later albums I like (contrary to popular belief, I don't hate this band).  Nick even got the best songs right, with Trains being one of the best songs ever by any band.  I wouldn't have the album this high, but I don't really have a problem with this ranking.

I got into Rush in September of 2003, and was getting into Dream Theater by the end of the year and through 2004, but it wasn't until the end of 2004 and 2005 that I really started getting into a lot of stuff.

What are Flick's opinions on Heartattack in a Layby, .3, and Lips of Ashes?
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. More importantly; the song which gave this thread it's name: 'The Creator Has A Mastertape', one of the best songs on this album.

Of those three I prefer .3, and Lips of Ashes is one of my lesser liked tracks from the album, if not my least favorite. Heartattack is fantastic, but middle of the pack on the album due to there being so much other awesomeness.

Aside from the 3 I mentioned either this or Strip the Soul is my next favorite. Creator is very overlooked I think and it's just a fantastic track.

Prolly my favorite on the album, but there's no doubt that it sticks out a bit compared to the other songs.

My favorite part of Strip the Soul is when the audio clip of the guy on the phone (Fred West, I'm guessing) says "We'd love to see you" and then the guitar comes crashing in. It's so evil.
