DTVT:
Slough Feg-High Passage/Low Passage: So, you said you didn't know exactly where they fell in the whole metal spectrum, well, I have an idea...less awesome Falconer (who according to Justin, is laughable and trollish, but no matter, he just sucks.) Overall, it is not that great of a song. It is your average power metal, which can either be really great or pretty boring. It's gallopy rhythm got on my nerves and the guys voice was ok at best, but I thought the song as a whole was ok, paired with a pretty kickass solo and strictly music section toward the end. It seemed like your average power metal song with weird ass lyrics. 3/7...now fire bomb my house.
Lat:
Mastodon-Crystal Skull: Bring in the hate biznitches. I dug Cracke the Skye and The Hunter, but this didn't do much for me. The music was a little bland the vocals pissed me off. I don't know what happened between then and now that made them good, but I guess it just happened naturally. The song isn't that bad, so I'm not giving it a 2, but it's not something I would consider very good either, so I'll give it a 3 and stick to their last two albums. 3/7
Lonestar:
Blind Melon-Glitch: Good song. I loved the way the acoustic guitars complimented the tribal drums. The singer's voice was not what I would call "good" but it most certainly fit the music very very well. The mix of the different tribal-like instruments leaves the listener in a trance like state, which is sweet. My one gripe with the song is that A) there should be more singing or B) the instrumental part should be longer. I would totally dig listening to this while doing homework for a few hours. Good song. 5/7
Ravenheart:
KMFDM - Juke Joint Jezebel: As a whole, I thought this song was pretty decent. As you've probably been able to tell, when presented to me, I tend to like industrial stuff. I'm also a sucker for a nice chorus and that is exactly what this song has. It's very poppy, but it's great at the same time. The verse is meh, but the chorus is what makes me dig it. It sort of reminds me of the Six Flags theme song, to be honest.
It's not amazing, but it isn't bad. 4/7
Sigz:
The Horrorpops-Walk Like A Zombie: Gah!!!! You have me turning into a giant indie!!! Why!?!?!?!?!?!? I usually dislike those people. Anyways, fucking awesome song. I came really close to giving it a 7, but I decided against it, but it is most definitely worthy of a 6. The music is simple, but it sticks, and the chorus is fucking amazing. I feel like such a chick for liking it, but I don’t give a shit. Throughout the entire song, all I could do was:
When I stop the roulette, this is the first band I’m going to check out. If all the songs are this out there but retain the amazing catchiness and fun, I’ll love it. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to say a song was “cute,” but there is a first time for everything. 6/7 +1 for being the best song of the round, giving you a 7.
Ultimetalhead:
OSI-False Start: Very good song, bro. As tempted as I am to trash it for your incredibly shitty view on the song I sent you last round, I can’t. This song is just very good. I must first say this: I will never be open again. Good, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…the song is heavy, trippy, electric, and pretty badass. The verse is awesome and the chorus drones (in a good way.) The song is short, so it packs a sweet, quick punch without dragging for too long or over doing it. This doesn’t seem like the same thing that KM would write in DT and I’m thankful for that. I will definitely check out Blood when this thing is over. Overall badass tune. 6/7
Shake:
Can-Oh Yeah: Really not digging this one. It’s A) too long B) really weird and C) it just doesn’t work in many ways. The first few minutes are ambient noise with some dude saying shit I couldn’t hear in the back ground. At about the 3.5 minute mark, someone actually starts singing with some decent guitar in the back, but it was too little too late. Unlike other hippy, trance-y stuff given to me in the last 2 rounds, I can’t even imagine kicking back, relaxing, and staring into a lava lamp like I can with other songs. 2/7
Ariich:
Amorphis-Sampo: I guess you got a little lucky in that you sent me songs from a band a sort of new. Not well enough to deny you sending the song, but well enough to know that the song wouldn’t suck. I’ve been on somewhat of a folk metal kick for the past few months, so when I came upon a band named Shape of Despair, I eventually cam e upon Amorphis (as their singers were the same, the singer is now different, but whatever.) I gave a couple of listens to The Beginning of Times so I knew I would most likely dig this song, and I did. As you said, it’s melodic but it doesn’t sacrifice anything to be melodic. The singer has a great voice, the guitar solo was badass, and the song as a whole is good. It is missing some of the catchiness that I’ve heard on some of their other songs though; I should note that. 5/7
