Well yeah, Violet (as good as it may be) still sounds the least "unique" out of the EP's.
It has 4 songs, all are great, but not a big change from the Act-albums.

Red is quite easily my least favorite EP though, I don't think I care particularly about any of the songs on it, while I still think they're good, none strikes me as being "fantastic".

I really love Red. I'm surprised so many people don't like it that much!

I could say the same about Blue, it's really amazing but people seem to hate on it for no reason at all.

I wonder which would win if there was a mini survivor where we just vote on each of the EPs.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Probably something from Black. That seems to get the most universal praise out of all the EPs.

From what I've heard, Indigo is pretty much the most praised EP, but yeah.. Black is normally high up as well.

TCS is absolutely amazing but I have never listened to the whole thing one sitting. I don't know what the obsession on this forum is with needing to be able to do that before you can rate a cd??

I don't think it's "necessary" but it certainly enhances the experience.  The songs are designed to create a specific flow in moods, and they all transition into one another.  It would be like listening the one of the Acts albums on shuffle rather than listening to it in order.  Still good, and you can still enjoy the songs individually, but it's not quite the same overall feel.

1. Blue
2. White
3. Indigo
4. Red
5. Green
7. Black
8. Yellow
9. Orange

...I guess? I really like them all, I could probably rearrange that substantially and still be satisfied with it. I appreciate the work as a whole.

Hard to rank them, something like this:

1. Indigo
2. Orange
3. Blue
4. Black
5. White
6. Green
7. Yellow
8. Violet
9. Red

I really love 1 to 7, the other two are really good as well, but maybe a TINY TINY half step below the rest. (I still love them a lot, but the first 7 are very hard for me to rank)

Wow I don't really know how to rank them... I guess Green, Black, Indigo and Blue would be my favorites though.

Yeah Violet is the only one on my list that I actually dislike. Even Indigo I think is great, just that it's less great than Green.

Do you dislike it just because it's "more of the same?" I'm confused of why any fan would dislike Violet, because it's basically their signature sound.

I really don't even think it's "more of the same" anyways. It's definitely the closest to their regular sound but I'd hesitate to call it the same.

Completely this. It's more symphonic and bombastic and, well, fun. It's actually my favourite of the lot, and easily my favourite EP of all time.

Yeah, it's the bombastic bit I don't like. I mean I like TDH's Acts sound, but I think Violet takes it to an undesirable level. I don't know, I just don't go for it. I like Red, Orange and Yellow because they're energetic rather than bombastic.

Casey's post from a few hours ago in response to a question about touring Europe:

Quote from: casey crescenzo

It is seriously a dream of mine to make it to the UK and Europe, but I have had the absolute worst luck with getting there. No label wants to distribute our music, and because of that, we can't get a booking agent to pick us up- so we are stuck here in a sort of catch 22 limbo where we cant really sell records there until we tour there, but we cant tour until we sell records.

There is no publicity machine, or backing, or helping hand outside of the US, and after touring the US with no love from the rest of the world for the better part of a decade, I am starting to fear the inevitable possibility that things might stay that way.

lolEurope

But seriously, that really blows for you guys.

Just keep in mind there's another side to the coin. We don't get Pain of Salvation, Riverside, Haken, etc over here. The pain is mutual.

True. :)
That's one positive thing at least, I'm seeing Pain of Salvation live in March again for the second time, and the first time I saw them was 2 weeks ago, so I really feel for the PoS-fans in America who haven't even seen them once in 2-3 years.

The pain isn't mutual, Europe gets easily dozens of bands I like that the US never does, and on the flip side we get The Dear Hunter and... yeah, pretty much.

Maybe next time TDH does a headlining US tour all of you Euro fans can schedule a trip and we'll make an event out of it!  I'll host and we can all go to whatever New York City area show they're playing!  If enough of you come maybe I can tell Casey and get him to do something special for you :D (No promises)
