Wait. Do you all have a leak or is there a posting of Descension I missed?

It leaked a day or two ago. Listening to it at the moment, in fact, because, yeah, I liked Ascension too much to wait for when I buy the follow up  :lol

Why does everyone like Josh so much? His drumming is good at best, Chris Pennie was a master who even improved the old albums on neverender.

People might not like the material on Black Rainbow as much, but that was more Atticus Ross (of NIN fame) than Chris imo.

For me, its his sense of groove.  Josh adds a very groovy, swingy flair to the drums that Chris didn't for the albums he worked on (he wrote and worked on the drum parts for YOTBR, even though Taylor Hawkins performed them).   Chris is a good drummer, and technically probably better than Josh (anyone who played with TDEP for so long has to be) but he wasn't the best fit for Coheed.

Because Josh is a much better fit to Claudio's writing style than Chris was. Chris is a great drummer, and technically he might dance circles around Josh, but he played everything in a "metal" way. Josh is much more about groove and that fits so much better to Coheed's music.

Also, debatable about him improving the old songs, while they were some that sounded better, most songs didn't.

i think chris gets way too much blame for what ended up on YOTBR. the drums can only do so much. it was claudio's writing and direction that shaped the album

I blame Atticus Rose more! Even though Chris didn't play the drums on NWfT, he basically wrote those parts and they're great!

I like YOTBR too and Chris was cool but I do prefer Josh, mainly for the reasons already mentioned.  Just a better fit.  I think most can agree that their two worst albums are the ones that Josh doesn't play on.  Well except for the people who don't like Second Stage I guess, but those people are silly.

For me (and granted, this may have been Claudio's fault...but I point the finger at the drummer)....I just thought the drumming on NWFT was so *FREAKIN BORING*!!!   I really loved FFTtEoM mostly because the drum parts were so tasty and interesting and fun to listen to and follow.  For me that was totally gone on NWFT.   That album almost made me give up on C&C altogether.   I made the assumption that after the success of FFTtEoM, they had streamlined their sound and lost what (to me) made them special.

I'm glad that their more  recent stuff seems to be more interested in playing with intricate rhythms again...but NWFT did nothing for me.  And it's still my least favorite of anything I've heard from them.

How does anyone blame Chris for YotBR? First off it's a really good album, and doesn't deserve all the hate it gets. And while I think Josh would have done better on the drums the main problems with the album are that that some of the more experimental song-writing wasn't executed all that great, and that the engineering on that album is complete shit.

As one of this forums most vocal bland rainblow basher, I feel I should say I place no blame on Chris. His work on Guns Of Summer made what would have been a 5 album a 6.

I blame those producer guys.

Yeah, this.

Also ZKX fails so hard for naming two of the better tracks from YOTBR and calling them duds.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Pearl is pretty much the same song as Far... with a sense of forced seriousness going for that "this means something" vibe in an infuriatingly cringe inducing manner.

Just compare the two songs. Ballads, traditional 3 chorus structure (like all songs on Rainbore), simple guitar solo, both about 5 minutes long.

Yet Far is a very nice song with a unique atmosphere.

Far and Pearl are two of the best songs on YOTBR.
