Not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you were to compare OTBOA's opening arpeggios to TGP's opening arpeggios, the former wins. It gets me all pumped for the rest of the song (and album). Sure, TGP's arpeggios are beloved by fans, but I betcha that in 5 years time, OTBOA's intro will be the preferred set of arpeggios that kicked off their respective albums.

Indeed they are, however they aren't in the least bit similar to TGP solo arps, so I have no idea why they're being compared.

Well there are some broken chords in that lick, but it didn't think arpeggios were the main idea of the those phrases.

My bad. I guess acoustic guitar section would make more sense than arpeggios. The reason why I compared them because they open up their respective albums similarly - an acoustic guitar section paving the way for the heaviness.

Wait, you're comparing the intro of The Glass Prison to On The Backs of Angels...and acoustic guitar is being mentioned. There is no acoustic guitar anywhere near TGP.

Yeah the DT Youtube version sounds WAAAAAY better. The RR version was off putting a bit and I couldn't appreciate the song fully.

I would expect it to be a little bit more colorful, or maybe they did this on purpose to have a cold feeling overall?

I'll tell you what I like the most about this song: the instrumentals don't sound like wankery. I've gotten so used to those guitar-keyboard tradeoffs, and maybe they're actually in there, but I don't notice them if they are because they don't sound the way they have for the last four albums.
