On topic, OTBOA is certainly getting better with each listen.  I went from loving it to hating it, to being dissapointed, to thinking its ok, to great and now think its brilliant.

:lol :lol That's good ;)
Anyway, I was thinking about a similarity od OTBOA to PMU... what would it be, if every track was a copy of tracks from I&W... :) You know, Build Me Up Bring Me Down similar to Another Day etc... :)

That would work, and then The Shaman's Trance can be the ridiculously insane additional track.

Same here, it would just be funny if there were some unintentional coincidences that related each track to one on I&W (ex. how OTBOA and PMU have a very similar song structure, etc.).

People will find the way to relate every song to I&W even if they're completely different.

Absolutely. I can't get it out of my head... not that I want to.

As time passes and I'm getting more acquainted with the song, it strikes me more and more sad.
Quite unlike other sad DT songs (e.g. Disappear) though.

I decided to retire the song until the album comes out. I'm rationing my entire DT discography, so I'll only be listening to each song once, until the release of the new album.

Well, after MP quit, I stopped listening to DT for a while. Then after a couple of months, they've never sounded better.

mfw I first heard OTBOA :

So, I'm chasing these doves down the street and she's screaming at the top of her lungs, and then when the magician comes back from Europe, two of them turned brown!  Well I followed the instructions!

Yeah, I didn't skip A Rite of Passage right away but after a few listens I started to because I'd overplayed it before. I'd really rather that not happen with On the Backs of Angels.

But then again, OTBOA is a much more dynamic, musical type of tune. Words can't really describe the difference between these two tunes.

So I've been wanting to come back here and apologize to the song OTBOA. I pretty much said it sucked but I absolutely love the song now. Its become one of my favorite DT songs. I have this feeling that the new album might be DT's best album since Awake. I can't wait to hear it.

For now, I am intentionally not listening to the song really at all, as I don't want to burn out on it before hearing the rest of the album.  It is still on my iPod for when I work out, so if it pops up randomly, I'll listen then (and it seems to be popping up every few days), but if not, I won't be listening to it much.  Fortunately, there has been a crapload of great music that's already came out this year to keep my fat and sassy until then. :metal

I listened to it about 3-4 times when it was first released, but haven't since.  I really liked it, but I'm gonna abstain from running it into the ground 'til the album comes out.

Well, look at it this way, it's 2 months until the actual album comes out. But there's still plenty of exciting news to come between now and the album. Like DT's North American tour schedule. And the actual album itself, which we still don't know how many different types of editions it's gonna come in, I'm really hoping they'll pull a Silver Linings with this, and make like, an ultra deluxe edition for the hardcore fans.

I don't care about the track lengths, I just want to know what they are when I'm actually listening to the album, so that I know what to hype myself up for. I don't wanna be like, "Alright, this sounds like a long, drawn out epic," and brace myself for an adventure, then have it be over in 6 minutes, or vice versa.

The same here. I listened to it about 30 times when it want on the internet. Then I stopped and listen to it once in a while : it's as good as before, if not more.

The weird thing is, the song still feels fresh to me.  I've listened to it a bazillion times.  By all rights it should be stale and boring to me by now.  But every time I listen to it again, it still feels exciting.

Maybe it's just that this is my first time anxiously awaiting a new DT album, I don't know.  But the song has not faded at all for me, despite overexposure to it.
Sincerely,
Jaffa
