Here are the long-awaited results.
Best song (5 points):
jsem: The Planets: Mars, the Bringer of War - Gustav HolstAs I said a while ago, I'm a noob to classical music. And oh my god this was just beyond epic.
This had one of the absolute coolest uses of 5/4 time I've heard in my life and the build up was just droolworthy. This was definitely what I was looking for.
High tier: (4 points):
DTVT: Sleep and Dream - Battle of MiceI really liked the singers voice here. She had a weird, sort of unique feel to her voice which really added to this song. The quieter parts she really succeeded in setting the mood for and she alone made this song a great one. The lyrics were pretty weird, which is a plus for me of course.
TheVoxyn: The Battle to Heaven - MonoNever heard of these guys before, but this is why I love post-rock. They make you wait for their build-up, but oh boy is it worth it. The repeating melody in this one set the perfect mood and the build-up was very nice. Awesome song.
Medium tier (3 points):
ariich: Keep Breathing - RedemptionI'm pretty sure I've heard something from these guys before. Anyway, what can I say but it's just an awesome, epic prog metal song. The build up is gradual and effective. The vocalist is very nice, and I like the whole band in this one.
Gorille85: Pour More Oil - Her Name Is CallaThis song was beautiful. The build-up was really awesome, too. Another band I've never heard word of before, but I really don't understand why, as this is some really awesome music. I really liked the vocalist here too. Great song.
Medium low tier (2 points):
dtismajesty: Hesitation Waltz - DemiansPretty damned good song. I've heard of Demians quite a bit, but never got anything from them. There's some pretty good music going on here and the build-up was also really nice. I liked the vocals as well.
zxlkho: My Debt to You - The Pineapple ThiefYeah, so, this song was nice. As expected, they have their Radiohead and PT influences and are a nice, accessible, alt-ish prog band. This was a pretty good song, and I've always admired this style, although sometimes it works more than others.
Bottom tier (1 point):
The King in Crimson: Wake Up the Dead - The Pineapple ThiefSo this one is a lot like My Debt to You in the things that make it work. Nice song, typical of their style, but I felt My Debt to You just worked better. It's funny, I've been sent 3 songs from these guys this roulette, which all I thought were okay. Yet I love the album Little Man, which I own. Bad luck I guess. Sorry guys.
