COOL!!! MORE UNNECESSARY CIRCUS MUSIC YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

That is honestly my only problem with Aquarius. Everything else is golden, but those Rudess-esque zany parts really take me out of the music.

I actually like Rudess' zany bits (not so much bebot), but what he does live or in studio isn't too distracting, but on Aquarius, it's completely random and unnecessary. Maybe it's because of the Mermaid circus freak theme, but what they do, like you said, takes me out of the music, and leaves me thinking, "WTF?".

That's why I made edits of Celestial Elixir and Streams, taking out the nonsense and growls. Makes for a better listening experience.

Well, it looks like I'll be having a ProgPower attending friend get me a present while she's there.

Zook I'm pretty sure that stuff isn't going anywhere. But I love all that, it's part of what makes Haken so unique.

It (the zany circus music) still seems out of place to me, but there are so many dark/emotional moments in the music that I think of the zany music as a respite.  Plus now I'm used to it so it would sound weird without it.

Just found out that Haken have released a teaser for their upcoming album 'Visions'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um8xAjt50iU&feature=player_embedded

I'm super pumped for this album considering that Aquarius is by far my favourite album of the past year. It's out October.

Just had one of those forum moments where you realize you've been skipping over an epic thread.  I loved Aquarius, can't wait for this.

Love the album art, and that teaser really does tease so much. You can just tell it's about to go into something EPIC and then... nothing. Love it!

I have a feeling that's going to lead into something super heavy and epic, and be all the more awesome for it.

I just asked for one and I got one along with some promo stuff from Aquarium.

I hope Haken do well. They are clearly very talented and make good music. I love how Rich just leaves his nice JP guitars to dangle on his neck while he plays keys!

Heh, I just realized I still have "Black Seed" from a cd from a Prog magazine. It's the only pre-Aquarius song I know.

Anyway, this new one looks fantastic. My poor wallet can't take much more awesome.

Ryan introduced me to these guys today with the song "Streams." I loved it. A lot. I would ask for recommendations, but I see they only have one album currently...so I'll listen to that and report back with my opinion. :tup

Agreed. The keyboard part at 4:30ish is by far one of my favourite music moments and it would be a shame if they stopped doing such crazy things on the new album.

Judging from the quality of Nocturnal Conspiracy and Insomnia, which were played live at Night of the Prog in July, this should be really, really good:

1. Premonition - 4:10
2. Nocturnal Conspiracy - 13:08
3. Insomnia - 6:06
4. The Mind's Eye - 4:05
5. Portals - 5:27
6. Shapeshifter - 8:08
7. Deathless - 8:04
8. Visions - 22:25

The US release has been announced for October 25. If you want it earlier, you'll have to attend one of Haken's September live gigs, either at ProgPower USA in Atlanta or at the Generation Prog Festival in Nürnberg, Germany. :)

Oh yeah: In addition to the 22 minute title track, songs no. 4, 5 and 6 are connected, creating a ~18 minute suite. :)

Decided to give these guys a try, and my initial impression is-hey, wow, a progressive metal band that has heard of Kansas! Really got a big time Kansas vibe off the start of "Streams." I kind of see what people are saying about the zany keyboard parts, but they do have a certain kind of charm. Thus far-and this is kind of weird for me, given my love of technical death metal-the only thing I don't really like are the death metal vocals. They just seem to wander in totally randomly, and don't add a lot to the song. Otherwise, liking these guys a lot, and maybe the death metal vocals will grow on me.

(edit): Ohh, that instrumental break in "Aquarium": GODLIKE.  :metal
