Grrrr can't wait to get my copy.

I've been on a SI / EOP trip for the past 2 days in anticipation
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I have to wait until August 6th until I can retrieve my copy. Thankfully I'll be living in Ottawa by then so I can find a CD store relatively close, assuming they will have the album.

Hey guys.  I've decided it's finally time for me to start exploring James Labrie's solo stuff, and I'm wondering where the best place to start would be.  I know this thread is more about the new album right now, and I don't mean to interrupt that, but, real quick, any recommendations?  Would it be best to start with Elements of Persuasion?
Sincerely,
Jaffa

Personally, Elements of Persuasion is my favorite. But I feel like, for the most part, the original Mullmuzzler album, "Keep It To Yourself" stayed the closest to a "Dream  Theater" sound (of the time, anyway), and it's got some very interesting stuff on it, so you might want to start with that as well.

I started with EoP (lol originally thinking it was DT)... then Static Impulse when it came out, the Mullmuzlers. EoP is still the best them

Been through the album about five times now and it's a fucking trip every time. I love this album. Top three are easily (in order): Amnesia, Holding On, I Will Not Break. I Got You, Agony, and Letting Go are close. The songs I love, I'm addicted to, and the songs I 'merely' really like are kind of being ignored because I love the aforementioned ones so god damn much. iTunes says I have listened to Amnesia 35 times in the last 30-something hours. So much  :metal :millahhhh :metal :yarr :millahhhh :heart

Nice!! Thanks!! \m/ \m/

I pretty much have a different song or two from this album stuck in my head each day. Holding On, Letting Go and Say You're Still Mine are probably the ones this happens with more often. This album though, like the previous ones released as JLB, is incredibly consistent. There's really no one or two songs that just sit a level above or below the rest.

I hate all of you that have already heard this album!!!!!

Except for the band of course, because I would expect them to have heard it.

I guess I really don't hate people lucky enough to get this 2 weeks before me.

Come to think of it, I think I am pretty safe just hating whoever is responsible for making American fans wait to hear this.   :censored >:( :censored >:( :tdwn

SPOILER ALERT
I like the album. Towards the end of the album it started to feel samey and I really longed for a couple heavier tracks, but I like it. I don't know if it's better than Static Impulse or EoP yet. What I can say is that is far more melodic and consistent, and the melodies are pretty fucking amazing. Undertow. Holding On. Lost in the Fire. Really amazing songs. I'll discuss the album further when everyone has heard it.

That being said is there any possibilty that the album lyrics are posted in a page or here or anywhere? I'm dying to know some of the lyrics of the album, they seem amazing.

that's what happens with "pop metal" and that's why we, as a remedy listen to progressive music most of the time and occasionally revel in this lighter more easily accessible and not analitically demanding music :D

I don't think that's really the reason. I listen to quite a lot music that can be considered simple or "poppy", both inside and outside of the metal genre, and I generally don't have any problems with that music keeping its fascination over time. I still enjoy IR a lot, but I honestly don't think I'll be listening to the album on a regular basis for the next months, unlike some other releases this year. Unfortunately :'(

fair enough, though, that's how it works for me, i.e. duration of a listening period is directly proportional to the amount of beautiful things i find in there. e.g. beautiful chorus vs beautiful chorus + beautiful verses vs chorus + verses + instrumentation etc the list goes on as i can find many things that i value within a song

This is what I just came in to the thread to say  :lol Just keep getting certain lines or riffs from songs in my head - even from Back on the Ground - which I wasn't too keen on when I first heard it, but has now grown on me.

My bad, I didn't realize it was out in NA yet. I thought that wasn't until next week?

Anyway, I did listen in Spotify. It's a good record.

Y'know, MM/James LaBrie really need more notoriety. Listening to this record, it is no Static Impulse. It's a whole new animal. In fact, if you go back and think of the band's discography since the Mullmuzzler days, there aren't that many metal bands which have consistently developed their sound since the beginning like this band have. Every album is different - and I daresay better - than the last.
