TAC

I think it will BE the second set, similar to 6 D's on the 6D's tour.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Samsara

I think it'd be cool as a one-off thing (the 12-step) but honestly, I wouldn't want it in regular rotation. The ending sucks (sorry, MP), and while the concept was very cool when talked about in the beginning, it was a struggle (to my ears) to the finish line. I'd love to have it done once, put on an official DVD and CD bootleg and then be done with it.

My books available for purchase on Amazon:

Jason Slater: For the Sake of Supposing
Roads to Madness: The Touring History of Queensrÿche (1981-1997)

Quadrochosis

I like the idea that someone posted earlier, having a medley of the first 4 parts followed by TSF. Playing the entire thing live would take up too much time and I'd rather see them play other songs.

That being said, I'd have no problem with the next DVD having the entire thing in full.

Dark Master Of Sin

Tbh, I have my phone alarm in the morning set to go off, and when it does I am awoken by the chorus to Caught in a Web, with the reminder saying "Remember, the next DT tour is all 'An Evening With'" :D

TSF IS a medley of the first 4 parts.. :lol

It's fine played as the second set each night. Just makes collecting boots a little boring, but honestly, that's a hell of a second set, no?

Dream Team

This is great news, but only if the band doesn't burn out. I think MP needs to be smart and play only 3-4 shows a week instead of 5. Honestly, James can't scream for 3 hours 5 nights a week anymore, it just wouldn't work. They need to pace themselves a little more to make the Evening With format successful.

Quite.
I want DT to be in top shape every night so everyone can enjoy, not rushing to get to every city.
Patience will pay off.

And of course the fringe benefit of time between shows is more JR video updates!

Quadrochosis

I love JR's video updates. They made the last tour fun for the entire duration of the tour and not just the show I went to.

So how likely is this to happen now?

To be honest, it's really impossible to tell. Obviously most people here would like for it to happen, but we haven't had any indication one way or the other since Portnoy left.

I honestly have no idea. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I still think it'll happen.
Really?

Yeah, I mean all along the statement was that they were taking a break from the format, and since they announced they would be doing it again I tend to remember at least JP stating they would be going back to it. Of course this was before MP left, but I feel the band at this point would have been committed to it.

The main holdback is probably that the Evening With would have supported the idea of doing the 12 step saga, and now that probably won't need to happen.

I think its pretty likely. I feel like the only thing that would have stopped an"evening with" tour would have been another Prog Nation, and I don't think we'll be getting any more of those now.

King Postwhore

I hope they do.  I love when a band with a good amount of cd's under their belt, with the amount of songs they have and the length of songs play at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

TAC

I would bet that DT is done with ProgNation, but I can see MP keeping the franchise alive. I mean, it IS a cool concept.

You mean like maybe starting one with Transatlantic headlining or something (or whatever prog band he's drumming for).

Progressive Nation 2011 headlined by Transatlantic with very special guests Dream Theater.

I'm actually a much bigger fan of the concept now that it isn't in place of a Dream Theater tour.

Nick

It won't happen, ProgNation needs a band with the pull of Dream Theater in order to survive.

You don't think a band like Porcupine Tree or Queensryche could headline this? Personally I'm not sure they could, but there must be a place for a concept like this.

DaPatrooch

I think they'll still do An Evening With, because wasn't it MP who picked the opening bands anyway?  Not that the other members couldn't pick opening bands, but it doesn't seem likely to me.

If the current Queensryche headlined it, I wouldn't go.

There are plenty of bands that could take their place. I just don't know how many of those bands would actually be interested in the idea.

They might also have to play venues that are a little bit smaller, but they could definitely pull it off if they really wanted to.

If Mike's playing in a prog band wouldn't he probably headline Progressive Nation, assuming he's still heading it?

And what do you mean the bands'd have to play smaller venues? Wouldn't the opening bands draw even more fans?

Nick

If somebody like Porcupine Tree headlined, it could happen, but that's doubtful because I don't think PT would do it, and I thought we were working on the premise that MP would be playing in whatever band led the festival. If he's just organizing it he would only be a promoter, and I doubt he'd be down for sitting on the sidelines like that.

Nick

Also, :lol at the idea of Queensryche headlining it. They can barely get people to their own shows nowadays.

That cabaret was a cool idea.

I didn't go.

ZBomber

Yeah, I couldn't see Prog Nation happening if MP wasn't in the headliner.

Well, it depends who the bands are. Lesser known bands wouldn't draw as many people, so they might stick to smaller venues... hypothetically of course. :D
