You guys are missing the point of my post.  I'm just saying that we don't know what the contract says, that's all.  And I presented as a possibility that they might not be able to play it.  But this again misses the point of my post.  The point is, if they CAN play it, they likely will at some point.  HOWEVER, again, as I said above, it might be more realistic to expect it in some sort of medley instead of the whole thing.

orphaeusest

yeah, i got the news... finally, we get the an evening with formula back. personally, i would also like to join shows in countries outside italy... let's wait, let's wait. i may follow them for a bunch of shows. but i preferer the next tour does not support any new album. this would be a really great setlist, in my opinion:

1. Intro
2. The Ytse Jam
3. Surrounded (or Another Day)
4. The Mirror-Lie (or Lifting Shadows Off a Dream)
5. Hollow Years (demo version with Petrucci's solo) - (or Trial of Tears)
6. Finally Free

Intermission

7. The Glass Prison (or As I Am)
8. This Dying Soul (or Blind Faith)
9. The Answer Lies Within (or I Walk Beside You)
10. Forsaken (or The Ministry of Lost Souls)
11. The Best of Times (or Wither)

End of Dream Theater History

11. Beyond This Life
12. Through Her Eyes
13. Endless Sacrifice (or Vacant-Stream of Consciousness)
14. Innocence Faded
15. Scarred (or Take the Time)

Encore:
16. Learning to Live (or A Change of Seasons)

I think it would be great if they would go on tour again before recording another album, but I doubt they will.

it is a win-win for me.  I would love to have a BCSL tour, but I would also love to have another album

It sounds like a good list (except for BTL. Ewwwww), but I crossed off the ones that aren't really plausible based on what they played on the past two tours. Good otherwise though. I'd love to hear all of Trial of Tears

You should probably cross out The Mirror/Lie as well.

I left it on there because they didn't play it in North America. I'll bet they'll do it here next time around

Ah okay, fair enough.

Nick

I expect Wither will definitely be a staple of the next N. American tour.

PlaysLikeMyung

I hope not. The song's astoundingly boring, and I have no desire to see it performed live (same with Hollow Years, though I like that one better)

I'd rather see The Shattered Fortress, which seems likely given the Evening With format. Other songs I'd like to see include:

Ytse Jam
6:00
Lifting Shadows
New Millennium
Just Let Me Breathe
Trial of Tears
The Great Debate
These Walls
Never Enough
The Ministry of Lost Souls (I know they played it on Chaos in Motion, but not in Philly :()

In a perfect world I'd like TBOT to be played, but that'll most likely be a one time thing, for DVD

Texas is waiting for the pay back DT!
Austin, Houston and maybe even Dallas, I'm there!
When do you guys think it's gonn happen? like early 2011?

cygnusaz

Don't forget Arizona this time either, it's been 3 years since DT was here! Phoenix is the 5th largest metro area in the country and a huge rock/metal town. Pretty unbelievable we've been skipped on both the 2008 and 2009 tours!

2011 sounds like a pretty good time. Hopefully I can make it, I've been dying to see them ever since I started liking them. I don't care if it's in Houston, I will drive the whole distance to see that show.

Nick

Every time I see this thread it brightens up my day.

perhaps, they will not play hollow years, but i do not know about the other songs... they can play them but they also can't. anyway, i would really like if they do not work on a new studio album before the next tour, so they can celebrate their 25th anniversary, just as it was for octavarium world tour, when they celebrated their 20th anniversary... but have the feeling they will be in studio just after this tour in support of black clouds & silver linings. i mean... 25 years are 5 half-decades and the event must be celebrated =D.

I don't think they're going to do a 25th anniversary thing. Maybe when they get to 30

no offense, but I hope you are delusionally wrong

PlaysLikeMyung

I think I recall Mike saying that nothing special would be done for the 25th. I could be wrong though

Don't worry, Yesh.  Mike said he's still open to doing a special one-off 25th anniversary show at your house.  We're just working out the details.

Setlist Scotty

Sorry Yesh, but doing some sort of special anniversary show every 5 years is just a bit too much. That pretty much means every 2.5 albums/tours, there's gonna be an anniversary show. 10 or 15 years in between anniversaries makes more sense.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
Quote from: TAC on July 10, 2024, 08:26:41 AMPOW is awesome! :P

Perpetual Change

Just be happy Score turned out so great.  Most of the time, when bands start doing "anniversary tours" they're washed up beyond being enjoyable.

yeah, I realize that.  I can still be sad, though, right

PS.  I am thankful that they are at least meeting for the one-off show at my house.

agreed

orphaeusest

i know that there are worse probability to get a 25th anniversary tour, but they're going to resume the "an evening with" formula, so i can say that i'm pleased anyway ^^.

perhaps, the next tour will begin in 2011, but i also think that there will be a new studio album, so we have a lot of stuff to enjoy! =D of course, i would preferer a 25th anniversary tour instead of a new album much better, but the resuming of the "an evening with" forumula is a great news and i can hardly wait!

p.s. sorry for my bad english, but i'm from italy ^^.

PlaysLikeMyung

I was thinking about something earlier; if DT is going to play the 12-step Suite, should they do it in the first or second set?

I say second. The first set could be a bunch of songs they haven't played in a while (opening up with 6:00 of course :metal)
