If I may, Night Verses is a fantastic instrumental trio act, very cinematic and different feels. MP has even been mentioning their drummer in recent interviews. They are very creative music writers imo.

Incredible band, saw them open for TOOL a few weeks ago. Pretty mighty thing to see an instrumental band perform to a crowd of 40K or so and they were super impressive.

Just about anything, I'm curious what you consider good music, and I'm sure i will find something worth listening to.

Can't wait to hear what James gives us. IDC where he records it, as long as his voice is healthy and he's sounding good!

Welcome to the forums! Going off topic is just natural. We try to stay on topic but it happens every now and then.

Thank you Jamesman for the recommendations.

I used to point out the same things, now I realize to embrace it and join in 😂 it'll surely go more steady on topic once we get more updates.

I have a feeling the next update will just be recording is finished, mix and master starting. Seems they are intentionally backing off on more daily DT16 updates and most news is the 40th tour.

I'm trying to remember, but it's been so long... Back in the MP forum days, how active was he on the forum during album recording?

I remember him checking in atleast once or twice a week with updates, sometimes small clips. Black clouds he was pretty active with updates. It feels they are being extra tight lipped this album cycle. Maybe it's my imagination? I may very well just be overexcited and it seems like less updates because the anticipation 🤷

I know 15 studioalbums and 1 EP that doesn't qualify 'new' but surely qualify 'good'. I have so much to listen to in these... besides, there's a novel coming up this fall which also will be time-consuming.

You should join the General Music Discussion side of the forums. Check out some of the past roulettes and perhaps run your own to discover some new music. Plus it's where all the cool kids hang out here.

I'm at peace with this for sure, can't think of a better way to start the second half of the 2020s decade
Half of my posts are satire; the other half are serious. If you can't tell which half you're looking at, it's probably the former. I enjoy busting chops amongst likeminded fellows. Where better to feel at home than among the fans of the world's most fun band? :)

I read on the DT discord that he finished so quick because DT16 is largely instrumental aside from a few soft whispers by JLB

Maybe there's a few instrumental numbers and he didn't have to sing as much this time.

To be clear, I bet he's still on it a lot, but maybe not as many as usual. By my calculations, he should still be in the studio for another week or so. So either he is not singing as much or he was so good it all came out perfect in one take

So now that all is left is mixing and mastering.
How long does it usually take for Dream Theater to complete these last stages of an album?
Isn't it the most logical scenario for the album to be ready by late September at worst?
I just read about the differences in mixing and mastering, whereas up until now they seemed to me as the same thing, not being familiar with the sonic perspective of the music.

Max Kuehnau

Usually, mixing will take longer than mastering will. (and they definitely aren't the same process at all)

I heard different. He just narrates song's names. That's all.
