It could be, maybe that's a too obvious explanation, but I thought that as well.

At least, it should be the theme of the album... the Great Northern Empire vs the Ravenskill Rebel Militia (who are supposed to be the good guys and who the bad guys???) will be the two fractions who will be fighting over.... something.

Would love it... this, even better than a double album, would explain better JP's quote about "It took us longer and you'll understand why".

They didn't write 100 minutes of music and therefore spread on two discs... they wrote *two albums* and they recorded them at the same time! maybe the reason is that it's a concept so they wrote the first part of the story and then they said "Well, whatever, let's write the second since we're at it", or they felt the need to make an album that sounds, well, "empirish" and one that sounds "rebelish" so they have two albums with distinct personalities.

Two albums at the same time would indeed be a "Never done before" kind of thing!

We may have two epics this time, one on the both of the discs...
...except it won't be two epics, but one

It will be a fusion of their two epics: a long epic like SDOIT, but in two parts, like ITPOE, and it will be the only song in the whole double album

The left, north empire disc will be an epic with a bright, ''epic'' feel, like Octavarium, and the right, ravenskill disc, will be a very dark and evil sounding epic, like ITPOE

And the main thing will be you won't actually have the order to listen to the discs: the song (album) will be composed that way that you can listen to it by playing the two discs in any order, so it can end with the light or it can and with the dark, so there will be two ways the song can be listened to, and the two different endings to the story.
