If it actually was Metropolis Part 3 I'd be super disappointed...but I can't imagine them doing that.

Kotowboy

Yeah and if it was it would have to live up to the others. It couldn't be a sequel to one of their best albums and sound like DT12.

People seem to be getting annoyed at this thread.
That's because many people seem to be postwhoring it.

How many posts could a postwhore post if a postwhore could post whores?

Okay, not to keep it completely off topic that website home page looks like something Jordan would conceive.

Yup.

As for the Metropolis Pt.3 talk - I'm under the impression that it won't be a metropolis continuation, but I am pretty sure it would be a concept album. Judging by the static and the (what looks like) a face of an android in the top right of the site - I'm also guessing it's something to do with machinery going wrong or something along those lines?

You know what? I would like it very much! Something a la Isaac Asimov or along those lines. Curious to see what they could come up with.

I know I'm probably wrong and I know the "distorted" design of the web might be a coincidence (that is, that it's possible it's meant as "we have a new album", not "our new album's gonna sound like THIS"), but when I first saw it, my thoughts were the next album's gonna be either really heavy again (like Train of Thought) or psycho (like Misunderstood).

Tomislav95

There will be distorted guitar on the album.

Wormhole. Time space warp. Certainly looks like a sci fi themed concept.
Could be. But if the distorted, grainy graphics are a hint, I can't help but think that there's an equal chance it could be something paranormal - that image looks like it could be something out of one of those horror/ghost movies.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

That's also something I've thought about. Either way, I'm thinking this album could be darker than the previous two. Maybe not in a heavy sense, but as someone already said, maybe stuff like the ending of Misundertood. Also the last 2 albums have been somewhat on the ''lighter'' side, with a lot of big uplifting choruses. So a darker/creepy album could also be considered something a bit different.

Anyway, we'll see when we'll have more updates to speculate on!

The fact that they changed their site pretty recently makes me think we are going to get a single or something soon.

DT used to make short vids for a certain site similar to Vine, answering fan questions. One of them was "Would you do Metropolis PT 3?", and iirc, Jordan replied something like " I don't think so - it'd be like a bad sequel to a great movie. Better leaving it like that."

Well, there are three "dances," so why not have three parts?

I could go for another concept album, especially a double album right now.  But just because it's Metropolis Pt. 3 wouldn't stop them from musically experimenting.

My only hope for this new album is that they turned the "easter egg" from DT into an entire song.  I'd prefer music which is more dynamic in the mood-sense.  I think Awake and I&W did this better than any album they've released yet, and MP2 is good as well.  Then they just started getting heavier and heavier.  The last two albums have been heading in the right direction, though.  ADTOE is really aging well with me.

Whatever it is, I hope this album is a little more experimental.  It sounds like it might be.  DT doesn't take a lot of chances style-wise.  I remember how much I loved Kid A, despite being a bit shocked by it's style at the time coming from Radiohead.  It was a big risk putting out an album like that, but it worked, and redefined their style for the next four albums or so.  We already have 12 albums of 13-minute prog-rock ear benders, and a few heavier songs and a few piano/acoustic ballads mixed in.  It's all good stuff, but at this point, to push it to a new level, DT has to get creative again.

Also, a lot of their music is very heavily classical-influenced.  There were more hints of jazz and blues mixed in on their earlier albums.  This band is talented enough to try a song or two of jazz-influenced prog metal.

Marketing is one of the farthest thing from a perfect science that could exist

That being said, i don't get to who they are talking to with their communication strategy.
Is it just DTF their target? Is it just a 100pages thread made of speculations written by a very, very, small group of people what do they want? Don't get me wrong, i love this place, still we have to be conscious that it rapresents a little portion of the potential DT audience.

What's the point in teasing with something, that says pretty much nothing, and then let it fall with an entire week of silence?
Who's supposed to be still thinking about it when the next news will be out? And so what's the point in changing something, if it's just to say "ehi, we're about to change!". And so what?

What i'm trying to say is that their social media attitude seems to be exactly the same they had in communicating with fanclubs back in the days, the only problem is that since then everything has changed.

And the main thing that has changed is speed. Everything is faster now, and people tend to forget even more quickly than before.

I've more questions than answers because i don't want to assume anything, since i'm not in the head of the guys so i don't know if for them that little change in their social media and website was supposed to mean more, or less, than what was generally perceived.

goo-goo

I just hope we get the music sooner than later (i.e. January release instead of March). My excitement is through the roof. I feel this is going to be a make or break album for me. My love for DT has tapered down a lot where I don't consider them my all-time favorite band anymore. This has nothing to do with my musical tastes changing but Symphony X's latest album kicked so much ass (and seeing them live was out of this world...Russell, probably the greatest frontman in metal right now) and Fates Warning latest album also took over my cd player for the longest time. ADTOE and DT12 haven't had that great success in the replay value.

Pax

Nice post by the Italian guy :D
I like to think DT members actually check these forums from time to time, and sometimes they see some clever post (even from me) and smile, knowing how the poster would react if he knew somebody from DT actually liked his post, lol

emtee

Been thinking about JR's 'we are doing something new' comment and JP's 'grounded' comments and wondering if they are both
accurate or just hype building that isn't really quite precise. Add in the new front page on DT's site.

I'm just wondering if this whole album is like a score to a movie and they actually have a movie to go along with it that will be played
at the shows. This is the only thing I can think of that makes any sense. A grand concept that is a score for a movie. Everything
else I can think of has been done already.

RoeDent

I wonder if there will be an advance 'warning' like "Stay tuned for news at x:xx", or will they just unleash it upon a sort-of-unsuspecting fanbase?
