Honestly, if they want to crack the top 5 in the US, they probably just need to make their next release a double album. Unless there has been a rule change I'm not aware of, the RIAA counts double albums clocking in at at least 100 minutes as two 'units'.

If anyone's wondering, SDOIT was less than 100 minutes, and the '2 disc 100+ minutes' has to apply to the main release, and doesn't include bonus content (so box sets, and the 3 disc version of BC&SL, only count as one unit apiece).

Here's the top ten with # of sales.

Quote1. Drake - Nothing Was The Same (658,000)
2. Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull (110,000)
3. Cher - Closer to the Truth (63,000)
4. Elton John - The Diving Board (47,000)
5. Jack Johnson - From Here To Now To You (37,000)
6. Luke Bryan - Crash My Party (36,000)
7. Dream Theater - Dream Theater (34,000)
8. Krewella - Get Wet (27,000)
9. Metallica - Through The Never (26,000)
10. Justin Moore - Off the Beaten Path (25,000)

Quite frankly, in my honest opinion, they should have cracked the top 5.  They were 3k away from top 5.  I don't know what's up with that, but, hey, it still good that they cracked top 10.

Is it wrong to have never heard of Drake?  There's a huge disparity between the number of albums sold between him and everyone else.

TAC

Wow, they beat Metallica. But who the fu#k is Drake and Luke Bryan?
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Ravenfoul

Wow, didn't realize it was that down to the wire for 7,6 and 5. Maybe next release they'll hit #5.

I hate when they go : " Oh - if the music you like is so good - why isn't it in the charts ? ;D "

In my case, they say to respect their taste,etc...
The point is, they always listen to radio songs (and the most shittiest genres people here in DTF don't even start to imagine) and never even listened to a full album in their entire life and look at you with that "you're a child" stare just because you say the music they listen to is sh*t.
If you're telling people that the music they're listening to is shit, then you deserve that kind of response. You wouldn't like them doing the same to you.

Well, that's what you get when you routinely release the wrong things to the public.

DREAM THEATER ROCKET UP THE ALBUM CHARTS;
"DREAM THEATER" SCORES #1 "HARD ROCK ALBUM,"
& ENTERS THE BILLBOARD 200 AT #7 FOR GROUP'S
THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOP 10 DEBUT;

"DREAM THEATER," the milestone new album from Roadrunner Records group Dream Theater, has made a spectacular debut atop Billboard's "Hard Rock Albums" chart, while simultaneously entering at #7 on the overall Billboard 200. This marks the GRAMMY-nominated group's third consecutive top 10 debut, and also sees "DREAM THEATER" making top 5 chart debuts in Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, and Finland, as well as top 10 debuts in Denmark, Austria, and Norway with career high debuts in the United Kingdom and Australia.

"DREAM THEATER," which was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with founding guitarist John Petrucci producing and studio luminary Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) engineering and mixing, marks a brilliant new chapter for the always adventurous group. Rolling Stone touted the collection as "...the birth of a new era in the band's career," while Loudwire exclaimed that "Dream Theater pushes the envelope into (a) new musical dimension, a cosmic realm reserved for the best."

Dream Theater - John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), James LaBrie (vocals), Jordan Rudess (keyboards & continuum), and Mike Mangini (drums) - debuted the album's first single, "The Enemy Inside" this past August with USA Today and recently premiered a companion music video for the track with Billboard. During the process of making the video for "The Enemy Inside," Dream Theater were connected with Save A Warrior, an organization dedicated to embracing returning veterans in a healthy and nurturing environment and offering safe, innovative and evidence-based resiliency programs for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. In the coming months, Dream Theater will be working closely with the organization to help bring awareness to soldiers suffering from PTSD through social outreach, fundraising drives and more. "The Enemy Inside" is currently available for streaming on the band's official YouTube channel (located at www.youtube.com/dreamtheater).

Dream Theater will tour in support of "DREAM THEATER," visiting 30 cities in 16 countries, with plans to tour North America beginning in March 2014 – full details will be announced soon. For up-to-the-minute news and information, please visit www.dreamtheater.net/tourdates.

"DREAM THEATER" follows 2011's acclaimed "A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS." That album – highlighted by "On The Backs Of Angels," which earned the iconic band its first ever GRAMMY Award nomination (in the "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category) – proved one of Dream Theater's most successful, making top 10 chart debuts in 14 countries, including our own Billboard 200. "A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS" was hailed for its ambition, complexity, and sheer melodic power, with Japan's influential BURRN! naming it as the year's "Best Album."

With total sales exceeding 10 million albums and DVDs worldwide, Dream Theater have long stood among the upper echelon of hard rock giants. Albums such as 1992's RIAA gold-certified classic "IMAGES & WORDS" (featuring the breakthrough top 10 single, "Pull Me Under") have earned the Long Island-based band countless accolades for their visionary synthesis of melodic power and virtuosic experimentation, including being named as one of Rolling Stone's top 10 "Best Prog Rock Bands of All time."

"DREAM THEATER" is currently available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180 Gram Vinyl Double LP, and a Limited Edition Box Set at the Roadrunner Records Webstore.

Mladen

Dang, I wish they cracked top 5, they were very close. Also, this Drake guy completely dominates the list, it is incredible in this day and age that someone manages to sell so many copies.

Zook

And he's just a typical dime a dozen hip hop clone.

I'm pretty sure DT albums have consistently charted well in Italy at least since Falling into Infinity. I clearly remember seeing the album in the Top 5 (can't remember the position, I think it was 2) and being surprised and amazed. I also remember hearing Hollow Years on the radio a couple of times back then.

Cool Chris

Congrats DT.

And count me as one who has never heard of Drake, Luke Bryan, Krewella, or Justin Moore
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Yeps...Falling into Infinity charted #2 on the (in)famous Sorrisi and Canzoni chart..
and I heard Hollow Years on Radio Dimensione Suono...

Italians know how weird this was...:)
