MT, you said Mangini did not write any drums and was just told to play what the other people wrote. That's just not true.

For instance, if I tell a guitar player to solo over the key changes of E to F# to G to A, in 4/4 at 175 BPM, the solo is still written by the guitarist, not the person laying out that framework.

wow best answer ever!, just belive Adami he simple knows what he´s talking about.  :hefdaddy

I suspect sarcasm.

wut? nooo i agree 1000000% about this, is simple as if a musician is given 4/4  3/8  7/16 9/8 3/4 2/16  there are tons of possibilities to be creative and still adhere to what was requested. is just that i was impressed by such and easy example  :metal

Not sure if you guys have seen the stories, but American Idol castoff James Durbin has said in his exit interview with USA Today that he wants MP to be his drummer on his post-Idol album and tour.  He said he ran into MP recently and asked him if he would join him and MP said "absolutely." MP addded via Twitter a day ago: "@JDurbinAI10 Don't be down. You're gonna kill it on tour this summer & you have an amazing career ahead of you. Call me if u need a drummer."

That is really cool of MP.

Wait a minute, I thought MP didn't like the kind of voice Durbin has, high-pitched and so on. Oh, no, wait, he only didn't like JLB's. My mistake! :P   ;D

Durbin will most likely tour to a larger audience than Portnoy will ever be able to play ti. It's a smart business decision on his part, that's all.

Yes, I know it, I was kidding. It's just a purely interested business move.

Oh I know, I just quoted you because you were the last person to post about it.

For what it's worth here is my take on how things will go down.

DT will make a couple albums with Mangini and subsequent world tours. He will do a masterful job both on stage
and in the studio and then one cloudy day the phone will ring and his wife will lay some heavy shit on him..."Mike
I don't like you being gone so much"  and they will talk but the issue won't go away. And after about 5 years
of this his wife will say he has to be home more. He will have a talk with the band, having been eternally
grateful for the opportunity...and he will leave DT. The Mangini chapter will have been written and then it will
be time to reunite.

Wishful thinking, emtee. With all due respect.

Why are people so attached to the idea of MP returning to DT?  It's not like DT11 came out and the drumming sucked.

emtee

It's not even wishful thinking on my part. Mangini said god first, family second and work third. He has never
spent multiple years on the road. His wife and family have not had to experience it. I'm telling you it's going
to be harder than the family predicted. They are used to having him around. Maybe MP won't be the guy
who fills in, but I'm predicting Mangini will be done with DT in 5 years. And I'm sticking to it.

Everyone in the band has a wife and several kids. Assuming Manginis would be different is random and baseless.

MM himself said that he wanted to be in this band so badly. He said that he'd love to retire with a fully established band.

Also, that order "God, family, order" is, as he said, something he was taught when he was young. Given all the circumstances, he doesn't sound as quite convinced as back then, to be honest. Also, given what he's been through in the last two years, I don't think he's one to pick up such a great opportunity, an opportunity he's been longing for for years and then turn away from it only a short time later at all.

so i guess we have an answer and sorry if someone already put this up i have not looked threw all the pages.

The Silent Cody

Well that video isn't something new for me... As we know DT guys, how they think, how they recording and how they are with each other... it was obvious that after rejecting MP return and taking Mangini into the family, there was no way for MP to comeback...

tri.ad

Good statement from JP, but I'm afraid that it won't really shut up those fans who desperately want to see MP back in DT at all costs. As for me, I'm completely fine with MM being a permanent member of DT.

climberboy

in all honesty i cant see how this thread is still going, i mean all of the evidence points towards Mangini being the permenant guy so Portnoy will just need to move on!
