Do you guys think that the band would still be willing to let MP rejoin the band after making a big deal out of getting the new drummer with the documentary and all?

hefdaddy42

???  Of course not.  Why is this even a question?

This.
After he is some kind of fired from A7X he wanted to come back, right? that was the rumors that I've heard... and band didn't want him...

Kotowboy

I wouldn't want him back either after he suggested the band split up for 5 years and then bitched about me in the press when I didn't want to, and then went to play with a pop metal band but came crawling back after he got sacked....

Despite not liking the tone of this at all, I can't find anything about it I disagree with.

He's probably gonna be back for some reunion tour in like 10 years or so.. or something. But he's not gonna take Mangini's spot as long as Mangini wants to stay.

King Postwhore

"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

ReaPsTA

I don't see it.  The breakup got too bitter, and they're too invested in Mangini.

MarkFitDT

Cant see it ever happening and I dont think I would want him back now despite how much I look up to him as a drummer.

ReaperKK

I can't see it happening and truth be told I don't want him back. Nothing against DT but he said his heart wasn't in it so they found someone that has their heart in it.

Tomislav95

I wanted MP back but now, after audition, I won't him in DT.

redfish71

has portnoy spoken about the announcement yet?

gummyfish

probably not for a while. i'd say, based on the Mangini interviews in the documentary, that he (Mangini) was portrayed as someone who was in it for the long hall. notice how they specifically included his quote about how he really wanted to be in the band, and that it wasn't just a gig to him. i think they wanted it to seem like he is their drummer, not just a fill-in. plus portnoy has really gotten a bad rep from all the back-and-forth internet messages following his departure, i don't think he's gonna make another big stink about wanting to come back. This is obviously all speculation, but i'd expect him to post some kind of congratulatory message for Mangini, and try to be classy about the whole thing for pr's sake.

MetropolisxPt1

i hope so but it depends on how well the MM albums is received

j

No.

But that said, I can only think of one scenario in which it might be possible.  If Portnoy expresses again down the road that he really wants back in the band, and Mangini gets wind of it and decides to step down and leave DT so that it can happen.  Of course the DT guys would never ask him to do that or probably even want him to, it would have to be completely on his own.

At any rate, at this point I hope that scenario never comes about, and I don't think it will.

I don't really think anyone here is a hater. Most of the fans love MP and appreciate everything he's done for the past 25 years.

However, it would be kinda awkward to see him coming back to DT, considering:
1. Mike Mangini is so thankful for this job
2. MP kinda said publicly how personally he took anything that DT has done/said following the departure
3. DT had to explain everything they said following MP's reaction
4. Things got a bit ugly, at least publicly, due to 2 and 3
5. MP already tried to come back, and DT shut his offer down. Also, they didn't tell him they shut his offer down personally (but through lawyers, and that was perfectly legit and logical in my opinion but who cares), and he seemed to be kinda pissed about that (at least by the post in his forum where he talked about it).

Plus, most of us appreciate Mangini. Whether one appreciates him less or more than MP, it's be sad if Mangini departs from DT any way you look at it.

There's no haters, hate has nothing to do with it, we are presented with a very refreshing prospects for DT future right now, new elements in the band's attitude that is so alive and inviting. I want the new DT to last.

JasonScandopolous

I think it'd be cool if, say, 2-3 albums from now, MP comes on good terms and plays a show with DT (incl mangini).  I dont think him rejoining the band is really possible or forseeable at all at this point... if mangini died (god fobid) or quit for whatever reason, they'd probably call minneman, wildoer, etc., before portnoy.  If you dont disagree with that, then theres really no chance that he'll come back*.

*if you want, you can even think of this as a girlfriend analogy:  your girlfriend leaves you, you decide you're better off, you get interest from 7 hotter girls and pick the best one... the only way you end up back with your old g/f is a moment of sentimentality or weakness... while this can and does happen to individual men, it won't happen to four of them at the same time before they can talk sense into each other.

KevShmev

Probably not, unless things don't eventually work out with Mangini for some reason (which could always happen down the road).

I really hope not.  After seeing the documentary I thunk I would feel awful if Mangini ever had to step aside.

I think that DT (or at least, their producers/managers/etc) got what they wanted if fans say things like that (I know I do too) :lol

yorost

Yeah, I think the documentary turned out extremely well for the band.

...unless they plan on going back to Portnoy soon! :lol
