How fun would it be if this was the CJS/JR setlist:

1. Wither
2. Anna Lee
3. Space-Dye Vest

:lol

For the record, IMHO (and the rest of DT as well - coincidentally, we happened to be talking about it today as we were in Istanbul) - both Kevin Moore and Space Dye Vest are both very overrrated and get waaaay more acclaim, attention and credit than they deserve....

It's pretty sad when a group of grown men sit around and have a discussion like that about a band member who left a decade and a half ago but it's even sadder to post about it like that.

Well like Kev said, I wonder if this was a full band situation or if Portnoy just kinda went-off about it and the guys said, "Uh, OK! If you feel that strongly about it, Mike!"

But, more importantly, why do you think grown men regularly act any more maturely than teenagers?

This is huge!!!

I haven't been following any news about the JR/JLB concert.  So, there are only going to be 3 songs?  What the heck?  And is JR gonna be playing keyboards or piano?

Nick

FUCK. I see this thread several hours after agreeing to work Sunday night. This could have very well made me go.

This is easily BIGGER than finding a new drummer.

I can't get over this. I'm so jealous to everyone who is going to this show.

Part of me wants the song to be on a regular rotation with the setlist.

But the other half wants me to just let the song be played this once, then call it a century. Even if I don't get to see it live, I think that would be the best approach.

rumborak

EDIT: People will throw a hissy fit when reading this.

Nick

I know I'm playing devil's advocate here, but the more I think about it the more I think this leak was probably a seat filling stunt more than anything else.

DT's official outlets, JLB and JR have been promoting this concert HARD and yet when I went to browse tickets a week or so ago there were still tons available.

Now when's the last time there was a rumor someone was going to play a song and you saw somebody come out and say, oh gee, you got me, we sure are going to play that super rare song. While I don't care if it was a move to fill seats (either playing it or letting it leak) it just seems odd to me. Whatever the motive I don't really care because I'm really just happy they are playing it.

emindead

I think it's just fantastic. That is really what I think. Oh, by the way, which one is Kevin MOORE!!!!

*Instert Kevin Moore reference "all roads lead to..." here*

Birch Boy

Listening to the song again for the first time in a while... it's nothing special.

That, honestly, is also what I first attributed James' presence to.

Well, you could just read the thread about the show...

Here is the original press release:

JORDAN RUDESS OF DREAM THEATER
TO PERFORM "EXPLORATIONS," HIS FIRST ORCHESTRAL COMPOSITION,
ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 23 IN TARRYTOWN, NEW YORK

TICKETS GO ON SALE TO THE PUBLIC THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24

DREAM THEATER keyboardist extraordinaire JORDAN RUDESS has announced an exciting and rare solo appearance on Sunday, January 23 at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, New York with special guest Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie. Along with Turkish prodigy Eren Basbug, RUDESS will debut his composition, "Explorations," on two keyboards.

"Explorations for Keyboard and Orchestra" was first premiered with two shows on one night, November 19, in Caracas, Venezuela.  During these sold-out performances in Venezuela, Basbug conducted the Chacao Youth Symphony Orchestra while RUDESS played all of the keyboard/synthesizer parts.  It is RUDESS' first orchestral composition, and the January 23 Tarrytown show will mark the first time it is played live on only two keyboards. At the show,  RUDESS will also highlight his acclaimed Billboard-award winning app (2010) MorphWiz.

RUDESS and friends will also be performing two keyboard renditions of music by Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment and more. In addition, Eyal Amir and Ray Livnat from Israel's Project RnL will be joining RUDESS for a new creative version of Project RnL's song "Wake."

Tickets go on sale to the public on this Friday, December 24. They are currently available for Tarrytown Music Hall members only. Tickets range from $25-$65 each. Note: the first 25 buyers of the $65.00 tickets--for an additional $20—will be able to meet Jordan and his guests after the show. Tickets can be purchased through the Tarrytown Music Hall's website.

The "3 songs" is what LaBrie will be singing on with Jordan.  There will be a TON of other music played, as well.

It HAS to be recorded.
It's DT history in the making right there.
I so want to be there..

I wonder how the 'negotiations' went. Somebody from JR's side must've had to ask KM if they could perform it.

IdoSC

1. Disappear
2. Wither
3. SDV

And also, Keving YES Moore!

Exactly. Even though Kevin wrote it and demoed it, it was Dream Theater that played it, recorded it and released it, so really, it became a Dream Theater song, not so much just a Kevin Moore song. And besides, it's not like Dream Theater is playing it - it's just JR and CJS, not the whole band, so it's like any one else would be covering it... it just happens to be 2 members of the current DT line-up.

By that reasoning, any band who covers, say, a Beatles song, can claim that song as their own, then.
