I'm glad they were open to doing this.  And hopefully they will be again.

What the hell, did no one else find this funny?

JR won't play different notes as he really enjoys the song.

JayOctavarium

oh i didnt realize it was Rich posting this.

my mind = BLOWN

When did he say that?  I always just assumed it was a case of him feeling strongly about it, and the others, whether they liked it or not, not feeling strongly enough to make an issue out of it.

dethklok09

the road crew must be pissed. There's no where to set their equiptment. So they're everywhere

Idea:

what if KevMo showed up? what if it was an elaborate plan? Now that MP is gone...

If I had to guess, I'd say I think they'll probably be pretty true to the original.  I'm sure they're not ignorant of the long built-up anticipation for this, although I'd have thought they'd make a bigger deal out of it when they finally did play it.  But then again, I always figured that on the infinitesimal chance they ever played it live, it would involve Kevin Moore somehow.

Any chance of Kevin Moore making the scene?

Dude, if that happened they might as well throw a fricking bat-sign onto the clouds with a giant middle finger :lol

Portnoy's words:

https://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/tm.aspx?high=&m=1710693&mpage=1#1710796

We put it on Awake because at the time of recording the album, we didn't know Kev was gonna leave the band....once he announced he was leaving, we had already recorded the track and figured WTF, we'll just keep it on...but realistically, none of us had any attachment to it creatively or artistically and in retrospect, I wish we left it off the album...(the whole story and my further thoughts can be read in the "Awake Demos" liner notes)

It's a decent song, but it's NOT "DT" at all....and if I had to make a list of the best DT songs in DT history, SDV would surely be at the bottom of my list (IMHO)

I think a big part of it's mystique is the fact that we've never played it live, otherwise - I stand by my statement that we all really feel it's incredibly overrated...

Hate to stir the pot, but I calls em as I sees em...

Sorry, I couldn't resist the prank!
But I'm locking this thread so it wont mislead people into thinking it really happened...

For the record, IMHO (and the rest of DT as well - coincidentally, we happened to be talking about it today as we were in Istanbul) - both Kevin Moore and Space Dye Vest are both very overrrated and get waaaay more acclaim, attention and credit than they deserve....

We've been friendly, polite, open-minded and nostalgic by inviting him 3 times to perform with us (as well as contribute to the Score documentary and the upcoming DT biography) and we've been turned down time and time again.
We can only be rejected so many times before becoming insulted...

If he insists on turning his back on his past, then I guess so will we....
It's been almost 15 years already since he quit...it's time to get over it!

In any case, the invite no longer stands....Kevin No Moore...

We're way happier now anyways...(and I assume he is as well as he wants nothing to do with us), so there's your happy ending!! We ALL win in the end!!!

MP

You know, it's funny how obvious it is that he doesn't allow himself to admit the other option: That it is plain and simple a really good song, a song that conveyed a mood whose intensity no other DT song (IMHO), before or after, has been able to match.

Super Dude

Notice how many times he says we in that last bit.  And I'm not trying to be rhetorical here, I do genuinely wonder looking at that whether this was a "we" or "I" thing.

I saw this title and thought it was a joke. But wow! I'm with the others saying it MUST be recorded.

rumborak

For the longest time after Awake came out, I didn't know of any of that bickering stuff about SDV. And I remember that I always looked forward to SDV closing the album. To me, it was as "DT" as Pull Me Under was or Take The Time. Bottom line is, the song didn't fit MP's plan of what DT should be in terms of music, so he declared it to be "not DT".

It's pretty sad when a group of grown men sit around and have a discussion like that about a band member who left a decade and a half ago but it's even sadder to post about it like that.

Super Dude

Well, we don't *really* know how it went down.  We only have this filter to judge it by, as with everything else MP.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a situation where Portnoy went off about it a bit to other guys, which would make sense given how bitter he comes across as being about the whole Kevin Moore thing, and the other guys simply nodded or didn't say much, as they probably didn't want to get into an argument or big discussion about it, and Portnoy took that as agreement.  Wouldn't surprise me at all.

rumborak

That's how I always imagined it, yeah. He goes on a rant, the others don't see it worth arguing so they just say "yeah, yeah.". Just not a battle worth fighting.

Er...what?  Forgive me but I don't think he would have a personal page like that when he has his music page on FB and his Twitter account.  Kinda reeks of someone pretending to be him.

Super Dude

Whatever the case, I guess we'll find out this weekend.

Old news to you guys, I'm sure, but this is the first time I've read those MP comments on Space Dye Vest. Reading them has only made my respect for MP as a man (not as a drummer) go right down. That is all.

Yeah, that's more or less what I was getting at, although the words you quoted are much stronger than I had remembered.
