MAKE SURE YOU WATCH IN 720p. Not the default 320.

Pretty good! Thanks for updating!

The song seemed a bit fast, but well-done none-the-less. The song loses quite a bit of momentum without the electronics and drums and samples, but Jordan's noodling was very tastefully done and filled in the gaps that would otherwise have been left pretty nicely. James also sounded very good. I'd imagine it's not easy to sing over that stuff.

sweetness...watching now!

thanks so much for uploading

SO JEALOUS... I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE

tri.ad

Great performance, I liked it a lot. Thanks for uploading!

tjanuranus

no problem. Just glad to be a part of this community. I was perm banned a while back from another forum for speaking my mind. Nothing different than what i've said here really but i don't have to walk on egg shells. This place is awesome.

Uploading the encore now with the blues intro jam.

Thank you for uploading! I've gotta give Jordan a ton of credit for keeping it as faithful as possible. My only gripe is that while I love that LaBrie was down for singing it he didn't really seem 100% into it. It's such a powerful song and it's very hard to pull off half-hearted.

Global Laziness

I thought it was a great performance by both of them. Yes, it was a bit fast, but it sounded fantastic. And I liked that Jordan put his own touches on it but kept them subtle.

SnakeEyes

tjanuranus, thanks for uploading that!  That was very nice of you.

My opinion:

1.  James was awesome.
2.  Jordan ruined it.  He took a simple, beautiful, haunting ballad and SHREDDED classical piano licks all over it.  I mean, seriously, WTF?  It's like taking "Blackbird" by the Beatles and sweeping arpeggios all over the place.  Terrible.

Just my opinion.

zxlkho

The only thing that could have made it any better was if they included the sample.

I really hope they play this in the future, maybe on their next tour. In the video, James says that this was SDV's "debut." Maybe that means they will play it in the future. :tup

If they tried to make it sound exactly like the original it would have sounded boring.  I'm glad that JR spiced it up, but without overdoing it.

I'm not sure you know what "shredding" means.

I have a hard-on for that song as much as anyone but I've got to completely switch those. Not that LaBrie ruined the song but just listening to the way he sang it it sounded like, to him, he was repeating lines at that was it. Jordan kept the music incredibly close to the vest.

Hell no. The brooding atmosphere and pacing of the original would make for an incredible live experience.

nikatapi

Thank you for uploading! I think it was a very good performance and thank god Jordan didn't overplay...

SnakeEyes

How can any of you say that Jordan played anything even close to the original?  It was way too fast and he added a bunch of needless "weedly deedly" arpeggios (as always).  Whatever, it's all opinion.

Well, two ways:

1.) functional hearing
2.) actually, I guess just one way

Also, I agree with orcus. The original, with the slower pace, samples, and gainy guitars would have been preferable to this slightly underwhelming (from what I can tell by a video on youtube) version. What Jordan did here (patches, some embelishing during the sample spots, a quickened pace) was better than just playing it slowly without the samples and guitars would have been. But there was nothing wrong with this rendition at all, and I'm sure it came across even better to those who had actually been there.

orcus116

SE you must be pickier than me cause I was actually on edge waiting to hear a lot of embellishments and didn't get nearly as many as I anticipated.
