Peter Wildoer. That's his name. Since he and James are so tight, why not? Seems the guy has some incredible technical chops for the metal/prog stuff.

That's also an ace idea. I like that a lot.

He'd do ANTR well, too.

Dr. DTVT

Just proof that NDV was the first one I thought of myself as well:

NDV.  Too bad he already has two full plates.

Hell, Spock's Beard has 4 post Neal albums.  It may work...

M-boogie

I always liked Marco Minnemann.

zxlkho

Why did he leave Opeth? I wasn't a fan back then so I never really knew...

Sigz

Because he had a lot of health and anxiety problems (and still does AFAIK).

Gadough

Aye, he had an issue with panic attacks. No pun intended.

chrisbDTM

travis orbin. he can play anything

Hello. New member here, but a long time DT fan.

Has anyone thought about Charlie Zeleny? NYC session drummer, has played with Jordan Rudess, and is well known for playing with Ron Jarzombek in Blotted Science.

He seems like he'd be a perfect fit.

robwebster

Anyone know what Rod Morgenstein's up to, lately?

KevShmev

The question if, what happens if the band hires a new full-time drummer and Portnoy gets the itch to be in DT again in two years?  Would the band let him back in and fire the new drummer just like that?  Would they relinquish full control of most things back to Portnoy?

orcus116

All depends on how a new album sounds and is received.

I hope not. Maybe if they find themselves swamped. I think they can cope, though. I'd like to see them bounce back. Not burn bridges with Portnoy, I love the guy a bit, but this is the regeneration. I want them to do new, exciting things. I don't want them to back pedal.

Looked it up. Being 58, apparently. Probably not the best guy for the job.

Hm. While I know the whole forum is in rampant speculation mode right now, I just can't even think of how anyone could answer this question. I guess it depends how things work out. Who knows is all I can really say.

Gavin Harrison would have the chops, but I can't picture him in DT, to be honest.

Maybe they'll find an undiscovered talent. That would be very neat.
And I can already see all those overleazous fanboy drummers applying for the position... :\

The Letter M

What about Collin Leijenaar? He does a pretty good job covering MP's parts from Neal Morse's studio albums, so he definitely has the chops to cover anything MP could do. It would be pretty funny if Collin joined DT and Mike joined Neal in a more permanent fashion!

Mike Mangini
I can't think of a better person to do it, seeing that we already known he's work with DT members before, he definitely has the chops, he's close to the band age-wise and I think he will fit in nicely in DT.

I want them to nick someone out of Avenged Sevenfold. Just for swapsies. Not the Rev, obviously. That'd be rubbish.

Is Synyster Gates any good on drums?
:lol

Aye, he had an issue with panic attacks. No pun intended.

I heard when he was about to tour with Opeth for Damnation, he would call up Mikael in tears, pleading with him to hold off on the tour. He had some sever problems with anxiety, and I can honestly say I wouldn't blame him. I suffer from panic attacks too, and when it comes to stress that shit will take over you.

But, if he isn't doing anything and he has it under control, I see no reason why he couldn't fill in.

Albeit, I'm still wrapping my heart around Portnoy leaving.

How has nobody said Neil Peart yet?
Because it's not possible?

NDV could be an interesting choice, although he's certainly not enough metal...

Quotedrummer from those DT cover split screens

This, or:

How about we have a Survivor, the winner of which will be DT's new drummer?  If this is now the 'official' DT forum, we can do this. ;)

If you know of another, enlighten us.

Edit: I was serious. I don't know that much about DT forums other than this one. So if there is another one out there, I'd would truly love to know.

It isn't.

And I've watched a video featuring Mike Mangini earlier and I can definitely see why he would be a good pick as MP's successor. He definitely has the abilities and also seems to have a nice, relaxed personality.

MP forum was the official DT forum, but now MP is not in relation to DT. This is the runner-up; we win!

tri.ad

Until DT declares this forum as the official DT forum, it's not official. Simple as that.

hefdaddy42

NDV would be a good choice.  He's got all the chops.  As does Mike Mangini.

But basically, there are a lot of great drummers out there.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Wow. Didn't expect my 'official' comment to get such a response. Haven't you heard of a joke?
