Meh. I'm bored of LtL. Octavarium ftw.
You're bored of the best song on Dream Theater's best album and rather prefer one of their most overrated epics? Granted, I like Octavarium more than others on this forum but still wtf

How can you possibly rank LtL lower than anything besides Metropolis on I&W?? (thats the only one I can understand... maybe)

I rank it below Metropolis, UaGM, and now TTT. On my list TTT got a low ranking, but I like it A LOT more lately.

This.

This is how I'd rank Images and Words

8. Under A Glass Moon
7. Surrounded
6. Another Day
5. Take the Time
4. Pull Me Under
3. Metropolis
2. Wait for Sleep
1. Learning to Live

I can understand Metropolis, but the first 3 minutes of UaGM are stale and it takes a while for the song to get going, TTT is great and all but it is NOT better than LtL.

I love the riffs and the chorus of UaGM a ton. The verses are pretty awesome too.

The 2nd half of the song is great, but the 1st half... not so much. Its still a great song overall though.

But still LtL is just one of those rare songs that I can't even consider not being DT's best song. Its right up there with The Killing Hand (Yes I love this song to death and I would gladly give it a high ranking), Space-Dye Vest, Scarred, Lines in the Sand, Trial of Tears, Home, The Spirit Carries On, The Glass Prison and Stream of Consciousness. Those are the DT songs I would say are their absolute best. I *might* put Octavarium in the same category, but its really hard.

Funnily enough, I have nearly the same problem with LtL that you have with UaGM. Everything until 4:13 bores me.

I love everything in LtL. Even up to 4:13 feels very mysterious, it has an interesting aura about it to me.  :lol

I agree with Mofatt! Octavarium is THE best song written so far in human history, and LTL is pretty lame IMO; I like the outro on the LSFNY version..otherwise it's nothing, just randomness

If you asked me last year I'd agree. Now for me it falls behind Supper's Ready (Genesis), A Change Of Seasons, A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers (Van der Graaf Generator), Childlike Faith in Childhoods End (Van der Graaf Generator), Halleluhwah (Can), and Master Builder (Gong).

I love how only one of those songs is under 10 minutes.  ;) :lol

Okay, I will do my best to get my first updates up tonight. If not I will do double tomorrow as I don't have anything on all day!

How's that random? I think it's rather clever.

If you wanna point out something random, point out the Jingle Bells part.  :P

No, that's pretty damn random...

That section might be one of the worst things DT has ever done.

How can someone think LTL is random and then say 8VM has nothing random come on it's not clever it's lazy and RANDOM.

You are correct!

That's not to say Octavarium sucks, its just that its insanely overrated. Top 20 tune for sure, but I don't really think I can put it among their absolute best. And I'm saying this as someone who actually likes the long synth solo in the beginning.
