I know. Fail.  :sadpanda:
Like, you've never played WDADU as an album before? Hell, at least youtube the damn thing, how can you make a list when you haven't heard all their studio material?

Ħ

I don't know why anyone would put any song from WDaDU into their top 50.  Maybe tri.ad would.  But I can't think of anyone else.

bloop

Ytse Jam?

a Fortune in Lies?

Only a Matter of Time?

All in my top 50.

I'd probably consider putting songs from WDADU in a top DT song list because anything from the last 4 albums.

Mladen

Some very interesting choices lately. Great to see Disappear and This dying soul so high.  :tup

Are you crazy?  There is great stuff on WDADU.

Let's see.....the intro to The Killing Hand, and, uh, well that's pretty much it.

Mladen

Afterlife, A Fortune in lies and Only a matter of time would make my top 50. Maybe even Light fuse and get away. So year, there certainly is some great stuff on WDADU.

Half of WDADU is in my top 50. Status Seeker, A Fortune in Lies, The Ytse Jam and The Killing Hand. The other four aren't bad either, if a bit average.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Hilarious posts, BrotherH. :lol

Honestly though, I'd get WDADU over SC any day. But both of them combined wouldn't be half as good as any one of Big 4 (I&W, Awake, SDOIT, SFAM for me).

OK I just realised how stupid I sounded, but I have heard most of the stuff from WDADU, just haven't listened to it as a "whole". The sound quality and Dominici's voice is a real turn off for me.

Then listen to WDADR. Or start picking bootlegs and make yourself a compilation of WDADU live at 92-93 like I did.

I listen to lo-fi black metal so bad production has never been a problem with me  :lol
Also, do you like 70's Rush or John Arch era Fates Warning? Dominci really reminds me of those and I don't mind that at all. His voice has a particular character I really like.

Jarlaxle

I only listen to whatever my friend puts on my iPod. I cannot affor buying lots of CD's, except for the bands I really love. I've been meaning to buy all the Rush CD's, but I haven't had the chance/money.

Seventh Son

bump for updates

You can always use youtube to listen to a lot of that stuff you know!

Ħ

^ maybe you should edit that.  Don't know if it's consistent with DTF's rules...

Seventh Son

I can swear I've seen a mod say the same thing before.

Ħ

"Illegal sharing of copyrighted material will get you banned from the forum, whether you are doing it publicly on the boards, or privately through PM's."

combined with

"Sharing, requests for sharing, offers to share, or discussion of illegally obtaining pirated material is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, warez, direct links, asking for links/files, and hinting at resources for finding the material."

I wouldn't risk it...

Seventh Son

If that's the case then there are mods on DTF who have broken the same rule.

I highly doubt that

Ħ

Yeah, I think sharing songs from other artists is ok, but just not from DT.

No, posting links to any officially released material not put forth by the band itself is against the rules

Most YouTube videos, for example.

He mentioned that saying the name of any such place was against the rules. I'm pretty sure just about everyone on this site has mentioned youtube before at some point in time.

15. Another Day
One of the high points on Images and Words, it is so simple and effective, not to mention beautiful. James is amazing in this song, and the lyrics are some of JP's best. I love the use of the sax on here, it adds so much to the song. Mike's drumming, there is nothing flashy about it, but it fits wonderfully with the song, as does KM's work here. At 2:06 the song is so majestic and makes me happy every time I hear it. Once again, nothing really stands out in this song, it is just 100% solid top to bottom.

14. In The Name of God
Great opening, heavy as anything they have ever done, but then the song is held back by the soloing and instrumental section. Some very complex and great instrumental work in this song, makes it very hard, yet very enjoyable to play along to. James' voice isn't the best throughout the whole song, but he makes up for it later. This song has an amazing chorus, very powerful, and James delivers here. I'll skip over the instrumental section here as I think it is a bit redundant, and just doesn't really fit with the song. Starting at 10:24 is one of my favorite musical sections ever. This final chorus is the best use of James' voice ever, when he holds the last two GOOOOOOOOOOD's and it gives me chills every single time. This section just has so much emotion and power that it is just impossible not to like. The "Whoa"'s also had a lot to this song, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic is so haunting yet amazing. Great ending to a song.

13. Take The Time
Not until VERY recently has this song clicked for me. I had already created my rough top 50 list and I realised it wasn't even on there, so I decided I should probably give it another listen. Wow, I have I overlooked this song for so long? I needed to "catch my breath" after listening to it cause it blew me off my feet. This is why Images and Words is so good, the CD has so many amazing songs, and someone like me can "hate" one song on it for so long, then suddenly realise that it is one of the best songs on the disc. The chorus is a little bland and repetetive for me, but I will forgive that for the rest of the amazingness of this song. 3:25 kicks off a very emotional piece of music, and the lyrics are also very good here. Honestly, this song is so fresh for me that I can not remember many parts, I just know it is fricken awesome.

12. Trial of Tears
I love the intro to this song, another amazing way to start it off, which to me is probably Dream Theater's greatest strength. Each time I listen to this song, nothing ever stands out to me and makes me go "WOW!", but culminated together, this song makes one of Dream Theater's most beautiful pieces that they have ever written. Everything is so solid, and this song has absolutely NO weak parts. Another great lyrical contribution by JMX, and his bass lines also kick some serious ass, let alone his solo/fill at the very end of the song, which is amazing. I love the lyric "take a look at yourself, not at anyone else, tell me what you see". I love "The Wasteland", so simple yet effective. Just overall such a great song.

11. Sacrificed Sons
This song is amazing. The piano intro is very haunting, and a perfect way to start this song. Is it me, or is it strange that James penned these lyrics when the other members actually grew up very close to the WTC? Either way, the lyrics are incredible, and James does a very good job singing them. The whole song has a very majestic feel to it, and is very uplifting. I love the bass line at 4:12, the distortion sounds awesome, and it kicks off a kickass instrumental section. This part is very fun to play, and this song is the first Dream Theater song I learned all the way through, and playing it a gig was very fun, a lot of groove. The section at 6:25 right after the solo's is one of the best parts in DT history in my opinion, a lot of emotion summed up right there. This is the song that really got me into Dream Theater, and really made me appreciate them for their longer songs and obscure song-writing style, so it will always hold a special place in my heart!

As I Am, this is not a thread where you just post your Top 50 whenever you want.  It's one person's turn at a time.  Please read the OP, and let me know if you will want a turn.

Trial of Tears too low.

Another day is going to you a LOT of heat, I don't mind though - I'm biased towards sax tho.

Trial Of Tears  :tup Take The Time  :tup

IN THE NAME OF GOD  :metal

The instrumental section isn't really a standout for me, Petruccis solo is pretty good but it just doesn't compare to the rest of the song. Best DT chorus ever, and one of the best endings.

Another Day probably wouldn't be in my top 50, and Sacrificed Sons might make it. Although I could probably get into Sacrificed Sons more, just haven't yet.

toro

Sacrificed Sons is way to high other than that those are some awesome songs.
